Yes, the Florida Marlins are the best team in baseball as of May 12th 2008! With a 22 million dollar payroll. The Marlins continue to purdge their roster every three or four years, but yet still put a good contending team out there. Why? They have been very good at scouting players they are receiving in return of trades. Those kids then become good solid major leaguers. Point being: Give the kids a chance! Call up Bruce, NOW! Call up Bailey, NOW!

Alex Rodriguez makes more than the entire Florida Marlins baseball team...that is pathetic. They are playing very well right now but their owner needs to put more money onto the field. They did just sign Hanley Ramirez to a long term deal but other than that they are extremely cheap. There's a salary cap for a maximum, there should be one for a minimum too.

When a star player prices himself out of the pathetic market of south Florida, they trade them to a contender for highly touted prospects. i.e. Beckett and Lowell for Hanley Ramirez! Then play him from day 1. All these young guys seem to gel very well, and play good fundamental baseball. Yes, I said fundamental. Something Dusty's boyz haven't done all season. If it's not a three run homer, then they dont seem to score at all. Not a good formula for success. Just something to think about when the "lowly" Marlins are spanking out beloved Reds.

The Marlins arent the only ones enjoying a youth movement. Look what the Rockies accomplished last year. And the Diamondbacks!!! Especially the Diamondbacks. They started rookies at CF Chris Young, LF Justin Upton, 1B Conor Jackson, SS Stephen Drew, 3B Mark Reynolds, and at C Chris Snyder. Go look it up if you dont already know what those kids are getting done this year. And then compound that by understanding what those kids were and are getting paid versus spending 3 mil on Corey Patterson and a mil on Josh Fogg.
Look at the Yankees as well. A very old team that NOBODY is scared of anymore. Baseball is turning into a young mans game and for those GM's and Managers that are in love with their old ass players, take notice from the Marlins, D-Backs, and the Rays for that matter.

Don't be deluded by the Marlins. This is a bad baseball team and that will show up as the season wears along. That pitching they threw out there tonight (Mon.) was atrocious. They won't keep playing this well.
Put them, Tampa, St. Louis and Baltimore all in the same box by July.
Let's hope the Reds aren't in that box with them.

I have to disagree with you about Tampa johnU, the Rays have always been able to hit the heck out of the ball, and now with Scott Kazmir, James Shields, Andy Sonnanstine, Matt Garza, and Edwin Jackson in the rotation, they finally have a pitching staff to go along with that offense. Troy Percival has been lights out as their closer too, if they weren't in the AL East, they could make a run at the playoffs.

yeah, i think the Rays are for real too, johnU. James Shields is a stud, kazmir can be an ace if he finds a way to stay healthy, like Ben Sheets. sonnanstine and jackson have taken their lumps and now it looks like they're ready to contribute, and they're still young. and as rhcp said, they can mash at the plate. i think it is conceivable they finish higher than the Yankees this year, though i wouldn't bet on it.
however, the Marlins are not for real, IMO. btw, they do not play fundamental baseball at all. their defense may be the worst in baseball (even worse than ours). i believe they led MLB in errors last year, and i believe they are tops again so far this year. their infield is particularly bad, with hanley a notoriously bad SS, and uggla maybe average at 2B, and cantu below average at 3B. Mike Jacobs is no gold-glover to round it out. the OF doesn't get much better, as Josh Willingham ranked dead last in one defensive metric that i saw recently (i'd still take him), and whoever they put in CF is a liability right now. also, their pitching is not any good. the bullpen is OK, but there's not a single shut-down guy in there, and look at that rotation and tell me you expect them to win more games than they lose...it's just been a fluky year so far, it's kind of weird.
