Although it had become very clear in the last few weeks that Pastner was headed to Memphis, it's now official.  UA has already been working to fill his vacancy, so it shouldn't take long.  It'll be critical, IMO, that we get an assistant who is a strong recruiter and who has a deep connection to the AAU circuit.  I understand that they are down to a couple of candidates, one of whom is an ex-player and the other a solid recruiter with strong ties to the west coast and AAU.

at this rate, we'll be replacing Lute early next week... I guess this confirms the speculation... someone brought up Wes and his influnces...great point... must have sealed the deal...

Pastner IS friends with WWW, and no doubt that helped.  But, this arrangement just makes too much sense for both Memphis and Pastner.  At the end of the day, this might just work out for everybody, including UA.

I agree with you.  I think Josh needs to get out of the UofA fold and head out on his own for a bit.  Everybody assumes that he will make a great head coach someday, now he gets a chance to take a step in that direction.  I hope things work out for him and he lands a head job in the next few years.  Maybe he will eventually wind up the head guy in Tucson one day, we'll see.  Regardless, I wish him the best and thank him for his service to the UofA.

does anyone know why U of A was so reluctant to name him AHC... was it because they knew he was probably going to take this Memphis job?

I think its the other way around.  I think Pastner took the Memphis job knowing that he wouldn't be offered the AHC job at the UofA.

All in all, I agree.  This can work out for everyone in the long run.  Pastner will get to coach under John Calipari (one of the premier coaches right now, and learn from him).  Memphis gets a great recruiter in the meantime (they pretty much need to reload after this past season).  Pastner learns on his own (from a great coach in a great program) away from Tucson and hopefully will bring that experience back to the UofA when Lute decides to call it a day.

ya thats my question, if he's so valuable, why wouldn't they offer him the AHC position?

What I want to know is how Wes actually makes money. Yes, he's the guy with connections, but how does he earn a living? Money from agents, shoe companies, NBA teams?
