After seeing too many silly threads about Kimbo beating experienced people (with winning records who don't suck like Tank Abbot), I figured I'd throw out a poll about somone who should be more his speed.  Rookie vs. Rookie.

I'll go with Lesnar.  Big enough to take a Kimbo punch, then gets a takedown since Kimbo probably has no defense.  Then he ground and pounds to victory.

Don't get me wrong I love Lesnar but Kimbo wins after training with Bas Rutten.

Lesnar destroys Kimbo.  Kimbo is a tough guy but with rules he would get eaten up by Brock

I actually hate both of these guys simply because they get so much hype, and for what?? Neither of them has accomplished squat in MMA. Not to say they never will, but as of right now they have collectively done nothing.

However if they were fighting tommorrow and I had to choose, I would have to pick Kimbo. Simply because at a minimum I know Kimbo is tough and can fight. Lesnar I do not know this. I mean everyone makes a big deal about Lesnar being a champion college level wrestler, So what! Until he proves that he can transfer that over to MMA, it means nothing. I bet there are hundreds of championship level college wrestlers or even olympic level wrestlers that would get destroyed in MMA. There is something I have found to be very true in my life and that is if you're a p***y and you can't fight, well then you're a p***y and you can't fight and no ammount of training can fix that, and lets be honest that is what MMA is when it is all said and done, a fight and you have to be tough. What I mean by that is, fighting has got to be natural and has to be inside of you. So if you are a punk and you are not a fighter, you can take karate, BJJ, boxing, wrestling, or anything else, but at the end of the day you are still a punk and will probably get your a** beat more times than not. So while Lesnar may have excelled in wrestling, that doesn't necessarily mean that is going to translate into fighting, so I am not saying he is a punk, but he may be, I have not seen enough of him to form a real opinion. Kimbo on the other hand may lack all sorts of polished skills, but I do know and have seen enough of him to be certain that he is a tough S.O.B. and that he can fight. If he can learn the skills and discipline to go along with his natural toughness and ability, then he could be very successful, but for now at a minimum we know he can fight and that he is tough. So I would have to go with him.

who has kimbo fought..one guy that was falling before he got hit and another that was gassed just walking to the ring..those are some tough fights..lesner asked and wanted to fight against the best out there..mir was an extremely tough opponent for lesner to start with..actually if you put tank in spandex and put a mask on him he would look like vader..

lesner would make kimbo look bad

I think Brock would take Kimbo down in a heartbeat and pound him into submission inside the first round. NO WAY Kimbo defends Lesner's take down ability. Can Kimbo fight off his back? Does he know what BJJ even stands for? How many hams to the head can Kimbo take? The only way Kimbo could win that matchup is with a freak punch that catches Lesner off guard, which isn't likely to happen, ergo, Brock wins easily.

I still have to disagree with the assumption that Brock would man handle kimbo. i mean all of your hypotheticals are very possible, Brock could take Kimbo down with ease and pound him into oblivion. Also Kimbo could KO Brock with one punch before Brock even gets a chance at a takedown. That's the thing, we have not seen enough of either guy to know what a definite or even likely outcome would be. I would still go with Kimbo, because like I said at least I have seen his 3 MMA fights and all his internet brawls, which are a far cry from fighting elite MMA athletes, but non the less shows that he can fight in some capacity and has some potential. Whether he realizes that potential or not is yet to be seen, but it is still more to go on than Brock has. The closest Brock was to doing something that resembles MMA fighting was being in a "Hell in the Cell" match, oh wait I forgot that stuff was scripted and fake. I just think these wrestling fans stir up so much undeserved hype because they don't fully realize wrestling is fake and think that because Brock dominated in that wanna be sport, that he will do the same in MMA as well, and I feel they are going to be sadly disappointed, but either way it brings more fans to the sport one way or another.

Was I the only one that saw Mir vs Lesner, Lesner was pounding Mir's face in before Massagati stoped the action and restarted the fight due to a strike to the back of the head. Mir would not have lasted much longer if they fight was not stood up, and I have seen many many fighters get struck many times in the back of the head with out being stood up. Any way, Lesner has been training for over two years at Minn World Martial Arts, Kimbo has been training for a year with Bas. Kimbo is a figher no doubt, Lesner is an elite Athlete that is a champion wrestler and has been trained in MMA. Lesner has a big size, speed, and strength advantage. Bottom line is if they fought 10 times Lesner wins 8 or 9 times, Kimbo gets a lucky KO the other one or two times.  How would Kimbo have done against Mir?

How would Kimbo have done against Mir? Kimbo would knock him out so quick. That would be a terrible match-up for Mir. Mir is an excellent fighter, but he needs to have enough time to use his grappling in order to win. Kimbo is not the better fighter, but any fighter that has a great stand up game is going to beat Mir.

Kimbo vs Lesnar would be a little more interesting, but not because they are better fighters, just because of their styles matching up better. I think that Kimbo would win just because he has such a tough chin. His unprofessional style of fighting will give him an advantage in some fights just as it occasionally did for Tank Abottt. I think that Kimbo has the chance to beat any fight by KO like many brawlers, but also has the advantage of knowing how to take harder punches than most. This would give him an advantage over any non-seasoned ground and pound type of fighter.

yeah mir did not have a chance against sylvia..i wonder how sylvia's arm felt after that fight..mir would come in knowing to watch the big punch from kimbo and would take him down..kimbo has fought NOBODY!!!  also people attach lesner with the wwe when really that does not even really matter..he was a great collegiate wrestler and probably would have 30-40 pounds of size and strength on kimbo..i would have to say out of 10 fights that kimbo would win only one..all he has at this point is a punchers chance..kimbo has potential but lesner would have him down on the ground within 10 seconds like he did mir..

It's kinda hard using Tim Sylvia as a barometer for stand up fighting I think. Mir is another HW that took advantage of a weak division (and more power to him for doing it; no shame in playing smart). Niether Sylvia or Mir are great for HW comparisons.

I'll say that Lesnar would lose this fight more often than not. I think he does have an advantage due to size and I think that would help him out. Otherwise, I just think that Kimbo really has a better live fighting backround and better training than Brock for MMA. All Kimbo needs to focus on is the sprawl and he could be a success fighting kinda like Chuck Liddell. A newcomer having to learn the sprawl has it way easier than one that has to learn all of BJJ.

Lesnar would be embarrassed by Kimbo.
(and I am not a Kimbo fan)

i agree with you on kimbo needing to learn the sprawl and he could end up pretty well, but chuck liddell was a good wrestler  back in the day..plus someone with the power and size of lesner would make it hard for about anyone out there to stop from taking down..really lesner needs to learn to protect his legs b/c i really do not see anyone getting ahold of his arm or neck, especially in the HW division..

didn't kimbo weigh in at like 235 lbs against tank?

anyway, i see brock picking up an easy victory here. kimbo won't be able to defend the takedown, and seeing as he's only been training for over a year or so, i doubt he'll be good enough on his back to submit lesnar. lesnar may have been submitted early from mir, but he did escape around 2 armbar attempts.

my top 5:
anderson silva       ;

chuck liddell
rich franklin
kenny florian
roger huerta<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

i think we really need to see at least 2-3 fights from each of these fighters to really compare them..i wish they would give kimbo somewhat of a challenge..so far his fights i would say he has walked in and been a 99% favorite..the only guy that he has fought that was not afraid was tank but he was winded before the bell rang, the other guys were falling when the bell rang
