Hype: you post makes no sense. Your teams will be in your local market channel. So you already get all the Marlins games.
But guessing by your genius you already know that. Hope you feel better with your rant.
Gammons doesn't call games. Marlins games would not have any viewership our here in California except when these teams go there.
If you don't like the content don't watch the games. Thats what we all do.
Have a good one.
The Marlins need to get out of that football field that they play on. They have some really great ballplayers. Let them win and they'll get their share on ESPN and Fox.

Agreed! MLB could learn some lessons from televised football, wherein one nationally televised game each week is selected only a few weeks in advance, so that it could capture the "hot" teams.
For example, the Rays are superhot right now, and so are the Marlins. The Rays are slated to play the Marlins in interleague play - why wouldn't one of those games be of interest to the nation, as opposed to some boring Red Sox vs the Someone in the World game?

I agree PH. As a Yankees fan, I can get my fill on YES. While I do enjoy a Yankee highlight with some Sportscenter wit thrown in, I tune to BBTN and SC for the highlights of games I didn't just watch. Prime example, I am still waiting to see the Uggla catch you were talking about recently.
How come we aren't hearing more about the A's and Marlins? Aren't the D-Backs making it look easy right now? And why isn't Josh Hamilton all over BBTN every night? Soon, ESPN will be to sports what MTV is to music... as once great idea that is now completely missing the boat.

If the Astros, they will only be able to talk about Miguel Tejada, Roger Clemens, and who may be a free agent that the Yankees, Red Sox, and Mets would want.
Haha, so true. "Oh yea, this Oswalt kid is pitching real well down in NL central. I think he'll be a real contributor in pinstripes." They treat other teams like they're the Yankees' farm system.
But there is a way to avoid displaying a complete lack of knowledge about "small-market teams". They did it when we traded for Tejada. You just have to get one of the team's local beat writers on baseball tonight. Unfortunately they brought on Richard Justice, who aside from being a prick is just the most cynical sports writer on the Houston Chronicle.
But still, it helps people from out of the team's city get a grasp on the overall fan opinion. It's something that you just won't get from ESPN people pouring over box scores.
But in this case, I suppose I don't mind going under the radar. Unless it winds up costing Berkman an all-star bid. What's really frustrating though is when they constantly misidentify the problem with your team.
(Pardon me while I beat this dead horse, but it's sort of the reason I created an account here to begin with). They did it with the Texans forever; they constantly blamed our O-line for the team's struggles and insisted David Carr would be a pro-bowler behind any other line. Houston fans, who had actually seen the guy play, knew that it was his complete and utter lack of field sense that was really the problem, yet we had to deal with the barrage of crap on ESPN, and then watch as every fan around the nation bought into it and tried to tell us the same thing. The result? New QB, same line, 30 less sacks. Houston fans: 1. ESPN "pundits": 0.
The lesson? These national analysts either don't watch the games, or they lack basic observational skills. Either way, they should bring in more local beat reporters who have better contacts within the organization, and a better grasp of the background and current situation.

And therein lies the futility of the situation.
The Marlins are winning. And yet they're still not getting their fair share of coverage.

First of all, those games are determined before the season based on what they think will be the most attractive match-up. Back in March, if you said the Rays and O's would be fighting for the division lead, people would say you're crazy- Ya, people liked the Rays before the season and there was a good chance they'd be good, but the fact is the Marketing people look at how consistently boston, chi, NY, etc. bring viewership. I'm from Boston, and I hate it when they're on national. I had to sit through Joe Morgan for 4 hours last night explaining things like why the runner ran to first after he hit it. We'd rather have our good ol local broadcast every night. But there ar eplenty of fans outside the area, who only get the games when theyre on national, so alot of people do watch. It has to do with how long the teams have been around for to. Lots of people move out of NY or Boston, say to FLA or wherever and have been sox/yanks/mets fans for 50 years are not just start following another team. If you moved from Wash DC to Arizona, your loylty to theNationals might not be as high considering theyve been around 2 or so years.

The Florida Marlins payroll this year is $30.5 million dollars. The Yankees ALONE gave the Florida Marlins $16 million in revenue sharing this year. Marlins fans should just be happy that the Yankees and the larger market teams have enough money to keep their baseball team in existence!! It makes sense that teams like the Yankees, Mets, and the Red Sox have the most media coverage because they have the largest media contracts. If the Yankees and their 1.2 billion in revenue this year want more media attention, you can be DAMN sure that Fox and ESPN are going to ask how many games they want shown. It's ALL about the Benjamins!!

Teams get airtime on FOX and ESPN based on a combination of their previous year's success, ratings in their own market and appeal to a national audience. The big market teams therefore do get most of the nationally televised spots.
Someone hit it on the head earlier. The networks do not want to show a nationally televised game on a weekend with 27,000 EMPTY seats. The Marlins might be winning but most of South Florida doesn't care. They had an "announced" attendance of 11,422 at last Sunday's game against the Padres. Maybe if the locals showed some support, Hanley Ramirez, who is one of the most exciting players in the league would get more airtime. The only time they come close to filling up the stadium is when the Red Sox, Mets or Yankees come to town because there are so many fans of those teams down there. I lived down there for eight years and there are tons of transplants who are baseball fans but not many true Marlins fans at all. It is a shame but that's reality.
If you want to see your team that bad, get DirecTV and order the Extra Innings package. You'll see all the games you want.
