I think Hill is a priority to get straightened out. But, until that occurs, it supports the acquisition of Lieber as well as the retention of Marquis. The Cubs have pitching depth and Lou has options. It is no secret that Gallagher, Hart, Marshall, Veal and even the disabled Guzman are talented assets to either fill the back end of the rotation in the future or as trading chips.
For now, the rotation is Z, Dempster, Lilly, Leiber, and Marquis. If the latter 2 continue to struggle, then perhaps the promotions will be made from one of that group. None of these young guys with the possible exception of Hill, are so talented, that you have to rush them. I'm in favor of riding the veterans, unless they show they can no longer do it. It appears that Lou Piniella is thinking the same way.
