During the rain delay before the start of the Cubs/Diamondbacks game, WGN showed the last inning of a no hitter thrown by a Reds pitcher. I just caught the end of it but what was interesting to me was that the pitcher threw 10 innings, gave up 10 walks and had 12 strikeouts. I'm not sure where to look up stats for that game but i wonder how many pitches he threw in that game.
The 10 walks were the most ever in a complete-game no-hitter (extra-inning division). Maloney needed to throw 187 pitches -- 78 more than opposing starter Larry Jackson (who also went 10 innings). He ran 14 full counts. And he allowed six of the last 14 hitters he faced to reach base.
Baseballreference.com is what I have found to be the most in depth and user friendly site for the info you are looking for. IT pretty much has everything available w/o a subscription.
The above links you to the game log for Jim Maloney in 1965. Scroll down to the Aug. 19 game and you will see his pitching line. Click on the date, and it will link you to the box score for the game.
When it comes to baseball, I admit I am a history and stats geek. But, the more you familiarize yourself with the site, you can discover a wealth of info from the past as well as last week. Enjoy.
