Most in the country, including you, see ECU as a midlevel CUSA program that hasnt won its conference.  Thats complete BS, we have absolutely nothing in common in football with UAB, Tulane, Rice, etc...Hilby, you are wrong about that. Anyone who is intellectually honest knows that the only difference between the Big East and C-USA in football is that BCS bid. There are several teams in C-USA that could compete in any of the BCS conferences. Why do you think there is such an uprising for a playoff? Because everyone knows the BCS and NC game are a farce. Do you not think that Boise State would love to have the access to the system that the PAC-10 schools have? Are you saying they are entitled to have the PAC-10 offer them membership? Tulane, a team you mentioned, went undefeated in 1998 and got no mention in the NC picture either. No one in "the club" is going to hand us anything. Those teams have EVERYTHING in common with us. They are on the outside...and they ALL want in. Don't act like just because we are ECU that we have a better gripe than anyone else. We are all fighting for respect. If they invite us, I won't turn the bid down, but I will not start looking at Tulane, Boise State or any of our C-USA opponants as second class citizens. You are coming across as elitist, and its not cool.

The article about it is not even an official source, so I just plan to sit back and whip the hell out of C-USA this year.

I like the sound of that. Easier said than done, but he's to hoping.

Fair point, I can see it coming off as elitist, and I'm glad you agree with me that there is no difference between us and the BCS conference teams that dont win their conference either, that scared me a little.

The point I was trying to make is about our program, not our football team, our facilities and fan base have nothing in common with the schools I listed.  They play in concrete jungles, the only common denominator is conference affiliation.  We all know there is a difference between having a program and a good football team.  South Carolina has had a program for a long time but not a good football team.

Hilby,

The biggest difference in the schools in our conference and us is the nature of the schools. Most of them are situated in very urban areas and their fan base, financial backing and available land for expansion are greatly affected by this. Most of them don't have their own stadiums. Most have heavy competition for the entertainment dollar and don't have rich history at this level. The only team that really mirrors us in C-USA is Southern Miss. They are in a rather small town with on campus facilities. You still have a little way to go even after your plane lands and they have made a reputation of scaring or flat kicking the crap out of the larger schools around them. I will concede your point if you will concede me Southern Miss.

Certainly, Southern Miss is in the same boat we are, and dont get me wrong I dont have any problem with the schools in our conference, we just dont have anything in common with them including the fact that is costs us a ton of money to travel.  Not that the Big East schools have that much in common with us either, but they are closer AND they have BCS money to earn.

Looks like a moot point because some think ND is ready to join the Big 10 and the Big East would then grab Memphis from CUSA in all sports.  Although I bet ECU's offer would still be on the table, as well I think it always should be.

As I said before, football conference affiliation is our MAIN concern, all other sports can compete for NCAA championships in whatever conference they belong to, CUSA isnt helping us there and hurting us in the wallet.

Can you explain exactly how adding one football team would hurt the basketball schools?

Yeah, I didn't think so.
