I have argued that Reid has drafted poorly over the years and has not done enough in free agency to boster this team. I am concerned that the other teams in our division have not only caught up, but have surpassed the birds. We don't have solid lines. They have been drafted poorly, and the free agents on defense have been average at best. Samuel was a good pickup provided they can turn Sheppard into another viable player or fit him somehow into their plans. Their recent draft produced an exciting returner, but can he be an impact receiver? If not, are the current group of wideouts good enough to provide the offense that the Eagles need? Will any of the lineman drafted (defensive or offensive) fill the holes that are needed? Finally are the Eagles truely gearing up for this year, or are they hoping that they will be competitive but are really focused on years ahead? I hope I am wrong and would like to say nothing more that I am. I think that this year will really tell us a lot about Reid and his ability to run a team. I think last year was impossible as his family situation HAD to be a distraction. I don't care what anyone says. When, not one, but two of your sons faces jail time, you can not fully devote your attention elsewhere. I also think that Dallas, New York, and to an extent Washington have stopped bumbling around. The Eagles profitted when those teams were down. Reid now faces teams that are much more formidable. I really hope that my lack of faith is off, and that some of the other other posters are correct. I would like nothing more than for Big Andy to prove me wrong.

haha, I know what you mean. I've been sitting around lately wondering what to do with my fantasy draft. I pick 2nd........I'M THINKING ABOUT MY FANTASY DRAFT IN MAY! It's bad man, I think the anticipation gets worse every year.

Yea our commish picked the order 2 weeks ago, just for trade purposes and such. And the dude who's got the 1st pick drafted Drew Bennett in the 4th, and Mike Furrey in the 6th last year. Yes, he's a grown man. So I'm hoping he picks Jake Delhomme 1st overall and I can do what I want.

Just read your post Poo, and I agree with the exception of the part about the lines.
To me that is the one area in which he has focused on every single year. Im very suprised that he didnt take that tackle with the 19th pick, but other than needing one tackle next year with two #1's I dont see this as a problem. We cant find any room for guys like Max Jean Giles and Winston Justice as it is so why keep stockpiling.
On the defensive line I think everybody is gonna be very pleasantly suprised by Bunkley in year 3. We have 3 solid tackles and Trent Cole on one end. I have no idea about clemons/Abrami(spell) or any of the other douches. Im glad they axed kearse and wish they would get rid of Howard and Mcdougle's sorry azzzzes.
The other thing that makes me feel better about the NFC east is the fact that Parcells is not with the Cowboys. Yeah he was getting old and stale but the man knew how to draft and build a team up. when he got there they were TERRIBLE. And he left the them stocked with young talent. And yes while they did have two #1s and high draft scores BUT if I would be careful if i was jerry. KEEP ADDING THOSE TO's, Tank's, and Pacmans's to your roster, sooner or later its gonna explode. I think dallas a year or 2 left before they go revert to Jerry's Kids again.
Daniel Synder still has no idea what he is doing, Gibbs is gone, and now you have an unknown at Head Coach.
And all the stars lined up perfectly for the Giants last year at the end of the season. NO WAY that happens again.

Dont get me wrong Poo, Im not jumping to the "Moonpie Andy can do no wrong" team but with the additions of Assante, Booker, and DJack AND (this is the key) if they keep Lito....thats the big if.....I am very optomistic...and i am NEVER optomistic
if they trade lito for a stupid draft pick that andy will trade down with...i'll be back to bashing the fat man

T,We cant find any room for guys like Max Jean Giles and Winston Justice as it is so why keep stockpiling. My only concern is that these guys were early picks. They can't crack the lineup, a lineup that was not lights out last year, and when they did, they sure didn't look too good. Wasn't it Justice who got torched agaisnst the Giants last year? (I think it was him)

I couldn't agree with you more which was why I was so bent on getting a stud wr. I think that it would put the birds over the top in this division

No No No bishop, I dont mean that at all... I think Max is gonna be great, but where is he gonna play? He's Certainly not going to take Andrews spot, and I really dont know dik about Hermans....My only point was I thought the depth was pretty good on the line. In fact i cant wait to see Max in the lineup, he's a beast

Yeah, I agree with that. Everything I could have hoped for this offseason was accomplished except for that. I like what the skins did with the drafting of 2 WR in with the first 2 picks. We joked about the old Buddy Ryan approach, draft a bunch of them and hopes one pans out.
I will say this.. Devin Thomas turns into a stud there is gonna be a HUGE uproar.
And it still might happen with the WR. Two #1's to trade with, I would make that sacrifice for either Anquin or Roy

I'm actually glad they didn't sit at 19 and draft Otah. From what I heard of him is that he was a great run blocker, but needs a lot of work in pass protection.
Herramans has been decent playing guard, but he is more suited to play tackle. The man is huge and has the kind of foot work needed to play the left tackle position. Max Jean-Giles will more than likely win the job for guard in training camp. The biggest question mark on the O-line is Jamal Jackson. Which one will we see, the one from last year (god, i hope not), or will he get back that hunger that helped him win the starting job from Fraley? If Jamal doesn't produce this season we may be looking at 3 new starters on the O-line for the 2009 season. I'm a little less concerned with the D-line as we have a lot of young starters that produced well last season. I don't know what to make of Abiamiri yet, but there is quality depth behind him (Juqua Thomas/Parker & Chris Clemons).
As far as WR goes, I think we are looking pretty good there (not to the extent of Dave Spadaro & Howard Eskin's opinions). We have some talent there, granted we didn't get a marque #1. I'm finished with the hope of landing one, I'd rather focus on what we have. Donnie & L.J. being fully healthy will help improve on an already good offense between the 20s. Their health will also improve inside the redzone. They will be able to roll Donnie out with the option of him taking it himself, something he couldn't physically do last year, or finding a target. You also can't count out the additions of DeSean Jackson or Booker. From what I've read the Eagles are looking to get these kids involved in the offense.
Now to the real question, do we have enough to win it all this year? In my opinion, no we don't. We will compete and make the playoffs, we just don't have enough to win it all. Again this is just my opinion, with no basis in fact whatsoever. The front office seems to do everything in their power to keeps this team near the top of the league, great for selling tickets & merchandise, but they will not ever sacrafice the future success to win it all. And I can't really disagree with that approach, I still remember the bad years all to well. Just once I'd like to see a parade on Broad Street featuring the Lombardi Trophy. Sorry for the rant, just wanted to put in my 2 cents.
