I'm so glad Ned Yost is such an idiot that he still has Gagne as closer.

Side note: the Brewers demoted Derrick Turnbow to AAA today, and knowing that that organization is willing to give relief pitchers plenty of chances to blow, he'll be back costing the Brew Crew ground in the division in no time.

The Cards are also having closer issues, demoting Jason Isringhausen in favor of Ryan Franklin and Russ Springer.

Eric Gagne is really bad as far as closers go.  he was absolutely a product of steroids back in the day.  took it to the bank too, because that's what happens when a decent middle reliever starts nailing down a bunch of saves.

Yes, Izzy for the Cardinals and Gagne for the Brewers both seem to be closers that have lost their edge or even may be washed up. That should give the Cubs lots of  nice slack this year and hopefully the trend will continue....Lets hope Wood can not blow up  and blow game like he's done twice against Brewers this year, when a couple things go wrong. Wood needs Lowry's personality on the mound...'.ho hum,. the bleachers just collapased behind me,but no big deal.'

i actually think that Jason Isringhausen asked for some time off.  i think he was starting to wear out.  as for Eric Gagne, the guy has lost it.  i wasa ctually wanting the Cubs to pick him up down the stretch last season but in hindsight am glad they did not.  i guess that is why jim hendry is making the bick bucks to call the shot and i am not.  the Brewers are having a rough way to go right now with all of their injuries and the Cardinals rotation is pitching way over its head.  if the cubs hang around the top they should have no problem out lasting all of the other teams in the central division.

yeah Gagne does suck. I guess when you' have a closer as 'lights out" as Kerry Wood, you have a right to bash other teams closers.

Comparing Wood to Gagne doesn't count.
Disputing a fact by introducing an unrelated fact means not addressing the issue.
Gagne is not effective as a closer and the Brewers can figure on a fairly abysmal finish this year as a result of that.

What that has to do with Kerry Wood is unclear to me.

As it looks, the Cubs may end up being the only team in the NL-C with a .500 record.
How sad is that?

 packerzrule,

I'll take Wood over Gagne any day of the week. I'm not sure there's a true "LIghts Out" closer out there right now, but to give the ball to Gagne in a closing situation has turned to sheer lunacy. In his own words he doesn't deserve the ball in late game situations, but I like that they continue to throw him. On the other hand, I would also have liked for the Brewers to help us out by taking the Cardinals down yesterday. I'll take a Brewers loss though. I like when they play like crap, it keeps their trolls of the Cubs board......nothing to trash talk about.

yeah Gagne does suck. I guess when you' have a closer as 'lights out" as Kerry Wood, you have a right to bash other teams closers.Woody's numbers are exceedingly better than Gagne's. Don't tell me you wouldn't rather have him closing.

And since Brewers fan (not necessarily you) always like to bring up how much more money the Cubs spend than the Brewers, note that Kerry Wood makes 42% of Eric Gagne's salary. We're not the only one that overpays players.
