Just wanted to know what people think. Dana White is against the idea, but EliteXc and Shaw are not. What do you guys/girls think? Should women's MMA be promoted? And should it be put into the UFC?

You know it's a very controversial subject, and a touchy one as well, but if this is an equal oppurtunity country then yes women in the US at least should be allowed to fight in the UFC and be broadcast. But make sure it doesn't get like WWE with the divas.

As long as they are fighting in the mud and wearing skimpy clothes I'm all for it!!!!   ....and that Gina Carano is hot!

In all seriousness tho, a fight is a fight.  If two women can give a good hard fight that is at a high skill level and entertaining, I don't see any reason not to promote it.

I'm not privy to Dana White's actual thoughts on the matter.  Is he opposed to women fighting in general?  or does he feel that there are currently not enough quality women fighters to promote a weight class (or classes)?  I'm sure there has to be a critical mass of decent fighters to make creating a belt worthwhile.

I agree with Dana keep them out. Elite isn't doing anything anything wrong with having a few girl fighters but before, in between, and after they have those ugly dancers on the walkway with that crappy music. That's pushing it.

Dana doesn't want to see two women fight, he doesn't think it is sexy or something. Don't have the quote in front of me but that's about it. And he will lose out Gina C. is on American Gladiators and every male in America pretty much says she's hot.  Then when she shows up on CBS watch out. Then when these guys realize that she can fight, along with the other women, guys will respect them. But from the looks of this group I'd say most think that way already.

Ok in all seriousness, if you bring two women into the octagon and they are professional, athletic, and well trained there is no reason they wouldn't put on a good show. I don't think it's really up to us if there are women fighters or not, I believe if they fight is't by their own choice. Dana is pretty greedy when it comes to the UFC. He has a lot of "clauses" in his contract preventing his fighters from doing certain things. Maybe for now it's good that organizations like EliteXC are promoting the women fighters because if Dana got his hands on them he would turn them into another undercard event and noone would really get to see women like Gina showcase their talent. In EliteXC she is highlighted as a main event, in the UFC she would be relegated to the background. That would be fair to neither her fans or her as a fighter.

You are probably 100% right Jolo. I could see Dana making it into the WWE Divas or something. We'll see what happens now that EliteXc is on CBS and Gina's on American Gladiators and pretty well recognized. I hope it really works out for the best because there are some other up and coming female fighters who would be able to benefit from that exposure. And if they are half as good as Gina they will put on some good fights.

As I stated in the "E:60" thread, there are some quality women MMA fighters out there so I have no problem with them fighting in the UFC...as long as they have the talent to fight at that level. Most of the womens fights I've seen have been pretty good, if not that technically sound. But they do bring it when they get in the ring/cage.

I am all for it. I think it would be more entertaining then some of the guy fights.
