What do people outside our division and our state think about Lance Berkman. To me he is one of the most underratted superstars in the league. He has been on fire as of late and he is also leading or in the top 3 in almost all hitting catergories in the league. Come on guys give me your thoughts!

The dude is on fire. I think what's paid off is that he finally has some decent protection. With Miguel Tejada batting in front of him, and Carlos Lee/ Hunter Pence following after, it's hard to pitch around the guy without having to give someone else something to swing at. And when Lance gets something he likes, he drives it a long way.

I'm really liking this Astro offense. The middle of the order is really doing damage, and Kaz Matsui is playing better than people thought he would. Now if only Towles and Bourn could get in the game.

I agree totally. I think if he played for someone like the yankee's or Red Sox he would be batting .350 with 40 or more homeruns every year. he would be considered one of the best in the game by everyone not just Astro's fans!!!!

I may not count because I live in San Antonio .. and even though I regularly watch the Astros I don't consider them anywhere near my favorite team.  But Lance Berkman is great.  Berkman has been productive and awesomely productive for the past five or six years now and has continued to produce whether he is out in the field or over at first base.

Also, might I add, he did a fine job in the field for someone who never played anywhere but first base until he got to the majors.

Yea I know its too early in the season to start this subject but if he's still hitting like this after July he's got to be an MVP cand.

In just about any way you can score fantasy baseball, Berkman in leading all hitters in the majors in points.  What's scary is that usually starts of the season rather slow and goes on fire after the all-star break.  Can you imagine if he picks up on his production AFTER the break this year...oh wait...if that happens they'll just walk him 2-3 times a game.

Even though I have always hated the Astros...especially when they are good so not so much right now , I have always been a HUGE fan of Lance Berkman. The man just plays baseball the right way. As far as we know, he never complains, always gives his best, and never acts like a poor sport. I can't see why anybody would like this guy other than all the homers he htis.

Who? Sounds like some scrub who doesn't play for the Yankees or Red Sox, so who cares?

Seriously. If Ortiz or A-rod were off to Berkman's start, ESPN would be fellating them daily. But right now he's getting the Houston treatment with about a five-second mention at the very end of baseball tonight.

What a great start though. Last year at this point, Berkman was batting .240 with 16 RBIs, 17 runs, 3 HRs, and just 1 double for an OPS of .740.

Right now? .380 BA, 35 RBIs, 38 runs, 12 HRs, and .1244 OPS. Oh, add to it 6 SBs and great defense at first. People have always joked about him being a bit... overweight. But this year he looks svelt, and he's running the bases as well as anybody. This is fun to watch. And of course his BA will drop eventually, but as Bourn starts to get on base more, the RBIs are going to keep rolling in.
