Edmonds cut by Padres after struggling with hitting, fielding
SAN DIEGO -- Center fielder Jim Edmonds has been released by the San Diego Padres after his batting average dipped to .178 and he struggled to track down fly balls he once easily caught.
The 37-year-old Edmonds, acquired in a December trade with the St. Louis Cardinals, strained his right calf in early March and started the season on the disabled list. Activated on April 5, he went 16-for-90 with just one home and six RBI.
Just throwing this out there for your consideration.
I remember many a time when this guy burned the Reds, both at the plate AND in the field.

The Padres probably were thinking they were getting the Jim Edmonds of years past when they traded him, but they were mistaken. Ever since he had those concussions he hasn't been the same. If no other reason, it's just another washed up lefty prolonging Jay Bruce's stay at AAA Louisville. We should be subtracting OF'ers, not adding them.
Does he have a past affiliation with Dusty, because if Dusty doesn't know him personally we would never make a move for him. He would be freakin' A-Rod and we wouldn't make moves.
Reds definitely don't need this guy. We don't need an outfielder, we really don't need another left handed bat. He strikeouts a lot. He's a carbon copy of players we already have.
We need POP from the right handed side of the plate.
not interested in the least. greenday nailed it (again): LH OF (that is enough right there), very little pop left, or any hitting ability for that matter, always been overrated defensively, and is as brittle as they come. what's to like? i wouldn't be surprised if this is the end for Jim Edmonds, because i can't think of a team that would want him, at least off the top of my head. if he does go somewhere, he might have to ride the pine, which again might just lead to him calling it a career.
the Astros and Giants might want him as a lefty off the bench - the giants maybe even to start at corner OF - and i would say the Royals might have some interest but it just doesn't seem like a fit.
Why is it that every time a player from another team gets released people always ask if the Reds should be interested?? They get released for a reason, usually because they are washed up and arent worth the money. The Reds already have plenty of players that are washed up and not worth the money. Griffey, Dunn, Arroyo, Patterson, Hatteberg, and Gonzalez immediatly come to mind. So why would the Reds want to pursue a player like Edmonds, Frank Thomas, Mike Piazza when they havent been good in 5 years????
Gotta agree with naticats ... sometimes a player needs to retire.
The independent leagues are looking for hitters like Edmonds.
The pay sucks.
Same game.
Now rather than sound cruel, these men are well-paid for their work and they have been marginally entertaining to me. I appreciate what they have done and don't want to sound cruel by sending them to the slag heap of baseball history just because they are "old."
It's the "well-paid" part that makes it easy for me to say this.
Adios, Edmonds.
Edmonds was an I repeat was a very good player at one time but, the last thing the Reds need is another old, washed up centerfielder on their roster... So to answer your question....Absolutely, positively,100% not interested.
