Don't freak out but is this guys worth the risk, if he returns to form he is a left-handed "power" (I'm using that lightly" center fielder, not to mention a gold-glover... So, should the cubbies take the risk

In case you didn't know he got releases by the Padres today...

for the right price, anyone is worth the risk... but thats just it, for the right price... i'm sure someone else will throw him a few extra bucks than we ever would offer him.

I will take a pass.  Edmonds no longer covers the ground in CF the way he ued to and his bat is slow as well.  At 37, Jim Edmonds days are behind him.

25 man roster, who do you get rid of to make room? Thanks but no thanks.

I say no deal. If the Cubs dont go after Mark Prior for 1 million 1 year i dont see how they could go after Jim Edmonds. Plus center is a crowded place right now.

I think Pie is a much better option in CF right now based on speed and defense alone.  Then add the fact that Pie has a big upside in his offense and you don't know if Edmonds will turn it around.  I do see this as a different situation than the one with Prior though.  Prior wanted a 1 year contract to rehab for half the season and walk away if he had a decent second half. The Cubs didn't want to essentially pay him to get better only to see him end up with someone else after doing all the work.

He is a bad pick up. Following him out here in San Dog. his bat speed is off and he covers less ground. He can make a comeback if he gets healthy and gets into better shape. ala Greg Maddux and continue as a corner outfielder or 1B in the future. But, I can't see him being a CF any more. It wasn't just that he lost a step but missing S/T set him bak and he is miss reading Fly balls and his bat speed is stuck inbetween F-ball speed and off speed while not picking up on the pitches.

Now how would Zambrano ever be be able to drill him in the ribs with a 95 MPH heater if he's on the same team???? Come on fellas - lets think ahead a little bit here.

Not a good option! In his prime Jim had a streaky power bat, a great jump on the ball in center and an above average, accurate arm from the outfield. He passed his prime 2 or 3 years ago. That is why St. Louis finally cut him. We don't have the strongest Center field right now but Jim would not improve it!
