I can't really debate the results of the Shaq/Kobe era ... there are 3 Banners at Staples as proof of their dominance.  BUT as a Laker fan now ...  Which "style" of Laker basketball do you prefer, the inside dominance of Shaq (back in the day) and a more "youthful" Kobe  or a more finesse style of a Gasol with a "team oriented" Kobe?

Definitely the Kobe/Gasol (or Kobe/Bynum) era.  I am much more a fan of the passing game that the Lakers are currently playing.  While I must say that Shaq was a pretty good passing big man in his own right, he's got nuthin' on Gasol, Odom or Bynum for that matter.  Pau was practically born to play in the triangle.

I am also a much bigger fan of the bench mob now than I ever was back in the Shaq/Kobe era.  I just think that 1 through 12 this is a much better team - better guys, more talent, and better chemistry than ever before.

It's going to be a wild, fun ride boys!  And I, for one, am going to enjoy and cherish every single minute of it!

As great as the Shaq & Kobe team era was ... it was alway prevalent to the health of the big fella and while there was championship results, there was a on going tension that stirred, the results we know.  Of course the compliments of Fox, Horry and Fisher were key but when it was clutch time, there were the two superstars.

This is a new "team oriented" Kobe and a balanced team game with Gasol at Center which in reality has probably a better basketball IQ as opposed to give it to Shaq in the paint and let him work.

I'd tend to argue that is a better Laker "supporting cast" now with Kobe as opposed to Shaq and Co?  While its still not a championship team (yet) If I separate myself from being a Laker fan, this 2007-08 Laker squad in its full completion is more fun to watch.

The new era looks more like Kobe/Gasol and Bynum. We still haven't seen three of them playing together, but boy...Bynum would be crashing the board, clean up after misses, taking allyoop ...definitely adds more excitement to the game. I definitely like the new look of Lakers just because it was sort of boring to watch Shaq simply sat in the paint dominated the opposing center game after game.

Gasol/Kobe. All the way. This is a very efficient team.  The team chemistry is much better as well. Kobe has matured into the Elite player we all knew he could be. He has trust in his team and Phil. Gasol is pure hustle. Always at full speed. When is the last time you saw a center wit that kind of ability? Kareem? Worthy?

This is a great question I honestly love both sets. But there is just something about this new Lakers!!!!!!!!!!!! 1-12 this team has guys that I really like I could go down the list but it would take forever. The only one I don't really care for is Mbenga but according to everything I hear he is a great team mate so maybe I should lay off him.

I just think this set in praticular is more likeable during the Shaq/Kobe ERA we had some great guys to but there was always some scrubs on that team like Madsen, Medvenko, Samaki Walker the list could go on and on.

Plus this team style is just great coupled with having a terrific bench this is just fun to watch and I can not wait until we are actually at full strength once Ariza and Bynum come back next season.

shaq and kobe were amazing no doubt, but like many have said this team is a much more complete team with great passing, great chemistry, and great bench play...but i'd have to say that the main reason i prefer this era over the kobe/shaq era would have to be because next year its going to be the KOBE/BYNUM/GASOL/ODOM era..complete domination...cant wait hahaha

Gasol is pure hustle. Always at full speed. When is the last time you saw a center wit that kind of ability? Kareem? Worthy?Gasol is playing out of position.  When Bynum eventually comes back to become the true center that this team needs, it'll allow Pau to shift to his more natural 4 position.  I, for one, am very excited about the prospect of our version of the "twin towers", it's something we haven't seen yet and given how well Pau can play the triangle I really think it's going to be special to watch.  What Duncan and David Robinson were to the Spurs back in the day, I see Gasol and Bynum being to the Lakers - with Kobe orchestrating the whole symphony as no one else can.

Hard to vote against the Shaq/Kobe era since they have 3 banners and Gasol/Kobe has not won anything yet.  Still, I voted for the latter since I'm enjoying watching this team now than the 3 championship teams.  It's a beauty to watch Kobe passing the ball and the rest are making their shots. I agree with the other posts.  This team has the chemistry that cannot ev
