I always think it's great when a local kid stays home to play the guard position at UNLV. Freddie Banks, Marcus Banks, and, of course, Greg Anthony (after a year at Portland State) are just a few of the really good examples. Elijah, in my opinion, has the ability to be as good (if not better) than any of the local product to play ball here.
There's just something about Jasper though. I've said it before about him, and it bares repeating...you WIN with guys like Jasper. He's a guy who, from what I've heard, simply makes his teammates better. He rebounds like crazy, he makes smart decisions, he defends. I see him as a 11.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 6.0 apg type player by his senior season...IF he's in the right situation
I'd love to have them both, to be honest.

Its possible we will get them both. That would take care of guards for quite a while. Being that we have 4 bigs, with one a possible early departure and two Juniors this season, I'd like to see him concentrate on that situation. We have about 5 quality guards that are interested in the program now, along with those already on board and committed (Hawkins). Very few big men are currently on the radar, and none that we can rely on for sure other than Lopez. He's got great experience and depth thru '09, but come two years from today with the start of the '10 season, we'll need a lot more help there.

I agre with you guys about the guard positions and Hoop is right about not having too many big men on our radar. Either coach is relying on Beas to be here for more than 2 years or Lopez to come in and contribute along with Massamba. From everything that I have read I only found 1 prospect as a center for the 09 class. The other kid from Compton that is a 3 star recruit , i forgot his name, got a lot of flack for not putting a 100% all of the time when he plays and I think that's the reason we didn't go after him too heavily along with Massamba's signing.
I wonder when he will go after another big man.

RebelFan....... I think you are referring to Edgar Garibay. A lot of what I read about him states that he dows have a tendancy to get lazy on the court and does not always seem to give 100%. A lot if big schools making offers though. I hear Louisville has already made him an offer, but his first choice has always been UNLV, but coach has just not made the offer.

Hey guys, just read over on one of the UK boards that Gilespie is holding a press conference tomorrow. Some specualtion that he is holding the press conference to announce something on the status of Jasper. Lets hope we hear something either way tomorrow.

I think I was right on my hunch. Jasper wants UNLV, Gillispie wants Jasper. Gillispie wouldn't grant Jasper the release hoping that UNLV would sign Thomas, leaving no room for Jasper. With Cage leaving UNLV, the Rebs have two schollies open for '08, and would be able to take Jasper even if Kruger accepted another transfer. Gillispie is probably giving up and granting the release.
Now, after stating this, Jasper has probably decided to stay with Kentucky. If that happens, I'll smash my crystal ball!
