This should help most of you who are trying to put a finger on the Bears cap room situation.  The team slotted allowance for signing rookies has been released.

The Bears are tied for MOST PICKS with the Chiefs and have the fifth-highest rookie pool at $5,791,190.

As it is how much of a pool each team gets is based on how many picks and which rounds those picks came in. The Bears landed at the 5th highest alloted number due to the amount of picks they had.

yeah but does that mean that any un-drafted rookies they sign their money comes out of that pot or the regular cap fund?

Good question, Arbia78!

No... this is just for drafted rookies.  Its a way for teams to slot the players selected by the position they were selected.  Creating enough money to pay the higher round players more.  Teams still find a way around this measure (i.e.-- the 5-year deal Jake Long received) through bonuses and incentives though.
