Man, I had no idea so many people were so high on Adam Dunn.

We need a few HR hitters in the line-up? We have them.  They are Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto, Jay Bruce and Edwin Encarnacion - all of whom are better baseball players than Adam Dunn - and they cost a fraction of what Adam Dunn makes.

Here's the thing I don't think many people realize, for all the HRs he gives you, he costs you nearly as much with his terrible defense, bad baserunning and inability to move runners over or hit a sac fly.

Is anyone here excited when Adam Dunn comes up to the plate with runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out? I'm not. He's the last guy on the team I want up for a key at-bat.

Give me a team of 8 Jeff Keppingers in the field and we will beat your team of 8 Adam Dunns 80% of the time.

Seriously, you can subtract about 20 HRs from Dunn's stats because he will cost you at least 20 runs with his defense.  There have been at least 4 games this season where Adam Dunn's inability to track down a routine fly ball cost the Reds 1 or more runs.

In short, a left fielder who hits 20-25 HRs, better batting average, better defense, and better base-running is more valuable than Adam Dunn.

Adam Dunn is a first baseman, not an outfielder.   We already have a first baseman who is a better player than Dunn, and Votto is only a rookie.

I like Dunn, don't get me wrong but I just think that we could get something for him that would be more important to the team.  He's a little too inconsistent for my taste but he could turn it around, you are right.  I just don't know if he can turn it around early enough.  He has been starting to hit it out more though so we'll see in the next 2 weeks or so.  I'm looking towards to Marlins series to really see what this team can do.  We should be able to light Florida up 4 games in a row.

Nasty -- we've seen Dunn long enough for me to realize that, even if he does "turn it around," in my book, he's still dead weight, mostly from the neck up, i.e., Meat Head.

(When I first read your post, and saw the "turn it around" phrase, I got this image in my mind of Dunn in left field, turning circles trying to find and catch a fly ball!)

His power is irrelevant now, and it has been for a while. And, since he can't field his position consistently well, he can't run the bases, and he can't mentor younger players, what good is he? We need a faster, younger, smarter guy in left field, and there are plenty of guys on this team right now who fit that bill.

Love it all!  All except getting rid of Freel.  If there is one thing that clubhouse needs right now, it is a guy would would run into a hornets nest to catch a fly ball.

Dump Dunn!  Even if we don't get the same "value" in return.  I'm sick of him.  He's a choking breath of foul-smelling air.  Some of you have him pegged.  Deadweight.  No heart.  Kingman with walks.  The rest of you who like watching him hit lots of booming solo shots while doing little else need to wake up.  Without Dunn, we'll still have power.  What we don't have is a brand of baseball that uses brains and speed and moxie.

I agree with everything he has to say. I love Dunn (heck, I first saw him play at Dayton with Kearns nearly ten years ago), but if we get more in return, and someone better on defense, then we pull the trigger.

I would love to go for it this year, but I do not think it is in the cards. Unfortunately, the only way to get Baker to play Votto, Bruce, and Bailey (and other young guys) is to make him have no other choice.

i can't wait for dunn to come around so people will lay off him a bit.  his slump is causing people to say some really ridiculous things.

I'm the biggest Adam Dunn fan around. The only way I see the Reds keeping Dunn is if they can find a monster right handed bat to hit behind him and a very high OBP guy to hit in front of him. The problem is where do you get those guys and who do you give up to get them. The Reds MUST keep and develop all of their young guys. They need to prove to us and themselves that they can actually develop young talent.

I agree that Bronson Arroyo needs to go. I like him a lot but he is not the same pitcher he was three years ago. She should be more product at 31.

CKFresh, I absolutely agree with you. People just assume that errors are the only runs allowed by Dunn, there are MANY others. I don't have too much of a problem with his bat, actually. He either gets a run or strikes out. I can live with that for the power and the walks. But his fielding is atrocious. I think its safe to say that Ryan Freel has 2 times the range (or more) in the outfield that Dunn does. Think about that. Freel could take away 1/2 of this year's hits to left field. How many solo home runs does that count for? I'm not saying that Freel is the left-field solution, but Dunn is a seriously problem in the field and is costing the Reds some serious runs every year, especially with his huge contract...
