This is copied from another site. Its from Troy's dad, thanking Rebel fans for all the good wishes they have expressed:

"Reading all of the good things you all have to say, make me very proud to have a kid like Troy. He is truly special, but you guys! Are one on a kinds
its easy to see why rebel basketball has so much tradition. They hands down have the BEST FANS PERIOD!"

Thats the way you like to see a kid leave the program. Here's a kid that gets moved out of the program, but he and his family will still talk with pride about UNLV. No negativity about Kruger or the school. They'll be a walking, talking recruit finder! Its what happens when you do things the classy way!

Just a positive example of doing things the right way. UNLV can use all the positive press it can get after years being devoted to sabotaging the program. Its nice to see the fans having such a big part in assisting Kruger with the programs image. Most fans, anyway.....

Hmmm, I have to admit I kind of have mixed emotions about Troy leaving the program. On one hand he was a freak of nature athlete even coming off surgery. That was evident when he pulled down 12 boards against BYU in Provo, showing he had potential. On the other hand this opens up an oppurtunity to add both big name transfers on our wish list. Malcolm Thomas was a proven commodity at Pepperdine averaging 12.5 ppg and 8.8 rpg. Adding a big like that with experience would be beyond invaluable. Derrick Jasper is simply a dream player. SEC experience, athletic and a 6'6 ball handler with basketball IQ that shows no limits. Frankly Jasper is a once in a lifetime kind of point guard and we as UNLV fans would be lucky to have him donning the scarlet and grey. It's sad to see a player like Cage leave the program especially since he did all the right things unlike the 3 who were dismissed or allowed to transfer proceding Troys decision. Oh and a P.S. Why on earth would Kendall Wallace leave too? The kid showed he can play D1 ball and has copious amounts of potential himself. He makes good decisions with the ball and will improve as a shooter. Give the kid a chance before packing his bags for him. Good luck Troy and stay healthy!

Hoop, Reb3, and Rebl90, I couldn't agree more with everything you wrote.  Unfortunately there are people that want to run off anyone that doesn't fit what they feel is a Rebel.  Class, that's all the Cages' have shown me.  From Troy, Uncle, and Dad, I have the utmost respect for the entire family.  Before nation8 begins spewing his dislike for Cage and Wallace, yes, everyone knew the talent level at UNLV was going to increase, obviously Troy did as well.  But nation8, take a look at some other threads to see how you can have class in discussig talent, as well as wishing a TRUE REBEL well in whatever it is he does next.  He'll land on his feet, and will be a heck of player on another team.

Welcome to the board runninrebl90-

Can't find a thing wrong with those thoughts. If Kruger saw fit to recruit them, its hard to fault anyone after a freshman year unless there is good reason. Most of those reasons would be character related; schoolwork, practice habits, attitude. There are some questions about Thomas' classroom work, but all that info has been more rumor than fact. If Kruger takes him, I'm sure he'll have to be satisfied with the classroom situation to some degree. If Jasper and Thomas want to join the Rebels, and Kruger is OK with it, bring them on. We can't hold schollies for those that "might" come, unless they want to give a verbal right now during signing period. In the end, we might not sign one of our top 5 hopefulls. Take 'em when you can get 'em.

I agree nation8, lets be real.  Being real??? Is that what you call it when you bash a kid on your so-called favorite college bball team????  Not only one, but two, and then post how much great insight you had that one left, and can't wait to put the other on a bus????  Man oh man, I don't know, nor will ever understand, how you call yourself a REBEL FAN.  I'll tell you what's a freak of nature, you.  This coach has won more games than most coaches the past couple years and yet you still question him.  It seems you're happy now though, your boy is gone  Support your Rebels man, and as said before, have some freakin CLASS if you have any idea how.

Come on now, I would never compare a kid like Troy Cage to Lebron James or Dwight Howard ever in my life. However Troy Cage still had a 40 in vertical leap after knee surgery. To me that constitutes freakish athletic ability.

Anyway-

Rene was going to room with Cage this year and is pretty upset he is leaving the program. He said Troy did everything right, and was not like the others that left during the last 6 months.

Its a very tough balancing act that LK has to do. Improve the team while maintaining morale, and treat all players honestly and with fairness. LK was honest with Cage, and treated him fairly. Cage & his family know this, and everybody moves on.

We've had about 50 posts on this thread, and its pretty obvious the way the large majority of fans feel. To sum it up, any player that gave the Rebels his best effort and devotion should be treated with fairness and respect. Kruger has done that, along with most fans.

Best of luck to Troy, and hopefully this move will allow the Rebs to acquire a player to keep them moving up.

Guess I just expected more from someone that claims to have played the game and is from a coaching family but then I remebered that Dave Bliss from Baylor was a player and from a coaching family and he had 0 class so I guess that being around the game doesnt mean as much as I thought.

In rebelnation8's view, he's not bashing, just being honest.

In otherwords, if a kid shows up at his doorstep for a blind date with his daughter, and says "Oh my God you're UGLY! Why didn't your parents get you some plastic surgery" Reb8 should explain to her that he wasn't bashing her or treating her with insensitivity, he was just being honest? What a guy!!!

Rebelnation8: Dang baby...you look like fell out of the ugly tree, and hit every last branch!

(Rebelnation8's blind date starts crying uncontrollably)

Rebelnation8: Whoa, whoa whoa, honey! What's the problem, Fido? Why are you crying like that?

The Girl (crying): How could you say such things!?

Rebelnation8: Baby, come on...I'm just keeping it real.
