It could be argued that no incoming freshman here at UNLV has created as much buzz as 7' center Beas Hamga.  Rivals 5-star rankings, and Youtube clips aside, what are your realistic expectations for Beas in 2008-2009?

I'd expect Hamga to make an immediate impact on our team.  He's had a year of practice with the team under his belt so i'm sure he has learned what is expected of him.  Plus he brings the much needed post presence that we were lacking.  He'll be a much welcomed addition to our already solid returning cast of players.

Fortunately for UNLV...and for Beas...he walks into a situation in which he certainly won't be relied upon to provide a ton on the offensive end.  Veterans like Wink, Joe, Matt, and Rene will surely provide plenty of offense.

The consensus seems to be that Beas will make the biggest impact on the defensive end, as well as on the boards.  Offensively, his presence in the middle should open things up nicely for Wink to drive, and for the perimeter shooters to get clean looks.  And because UNLV should have several good options on the offensive end, I look for a lot of Beas's offense to come off of stick backs, follow up dunks, and perhaps the occasional lob pass.

My guess is that we get something along the lines of 9 ppg, 9 rpg, and 2-3 bpg out of the big man next season.  Then again, who knows?  Maybe his offensive game has evolved more than any of us realize.

From the little I've seen of Hamga, and more so of what I've heard, I would expect 10 points, 10 rebounds, and maybe average 3-4 blocks a game.  If I remember right, I think I read somewhere a while back that he averaged almost 10 blocks a game his final year??  I know that was against high school kids, but in the same article, his coach said the talent of his competition was at a level of mostly division 1 prospects.

I would have to think I agree with you river rock with 9ppg 9rpg and the 2-3 bpg. Possible to go as high 12ppg 10 rpg, I would love to see how they work in Australia. I keep seeing Wink getting to the basket and throwing it up for him, kinda like Kansas was doing to everybody in the tourney. The fever is getting bad, I may have to ask my wife if I can fly to Australia for a few days.

River that is one mean dance move on your avatar, should we be looking for you on the upcoming fox series.

I think you're absolutely right Riverrock. His presence should mostly be felt on the defensive end and I honetly don't expect more than 8 points per game from him. I think the biggest factor that he brings is his sheer size. We haven't had someone down low that big in a while and he will open things up for everyone else. I think that he has a lot of pressure on him and many think that he is exactly what we need to get to the next level and in some respects they are right.

He will definitely be a force on the defense and our offensive boards should be up from last year because of our size. I think he won't have much pressure to score big, remember that he's technically still a freshman, and since he hasn't faced this level of competition he is going to have to get used to it. He won't have as big of a learning curve because he has experience with the team but I don't think he'll be blocking 10 shots per game. If he did, that would  surpass my expectations.

I've seen him practice alot this year..offensviely hes a bit raw and defensively someitmes hes not that agreesive and was allowing darger to push him around in practice. However I see him averaging about 6ppg 8rrb 1-2 blocks..keep in mind hes probably goin to be splitting alot of time with brice I see brice averaging about 4ppg 6rebounds

I'm a bad sounding board, as I have never seen him up close and personal. I'm hoping for numbers along the line "rock" laid out. I'm also hoping in years 2 & 3 the offense kicks in, giving him 15 a game. How's his free throw shooting? Hope we don't see a Hack 'a Shack defense against him if its poor.

At the end of the day, we need that big eraser in there just like we had with Joel Anthony. Everyone says he's a worker, and if he is, LK will bring him along. Don't see many people pushing Massamba around. They could be even better than the tag team of  Anthony/Essengue.

What im hoping is ppl around hagma dont tlk him out of leaving after this season. Cuz even if he doesnt put up big bodies he would get drafted due to the 5 stars in his an a 7;0 foot frame. This will leave us iwth just one center

Thats life when you attract 5-star players. You wind up like Memphis, with all 5 starters declaring for the NBA draft. I think he's a little too raw to go after one year. He could probably be a lottery pick with 2 or 3 years experience. Just my opinion, and right now, opinions are all we have....

Just having that post presence will make it a little easier for the shooters to find open looks.  I agree with most of you that he will probably average around 8-10 points, 8-10 rebounds, and 2-3 blocks.  The Rebels will have a lot of weapons next season.  Tre'Von can score too, so that will take a lot of pressure off of Wink and Darger.  With Rougeau and Beas shutting down opponents under the basket, Wink, Darger, and Willis each scoring over 10 a game, this team is going to be tough.  They could have all 5 starters in double digits in scoring and have 2 guys average more rebounds than their leader from this season. Wow!

Am I hitting the crack pipe to much this offseason, or is it realistic to expect 20 pts., 20 rebs., and 5-7 blocks per game this year out of the 5 spot?  With Massamba and Hamga, I feel a little high.  Again I go back to the article I spoke of earlier, Hamgas high school coach said he is the best shot blocker he's ever seen, the best in the country.

I know what you're talking about RS but to expect 10 blocks per game from a guy who hasn't played any games at this level yet. If he can reach that I think he would blow all of us out of the water, but you have to remember also that
