I recall last year on these boards when Hafner signed his deal with the Indians.  Most everybody was pretty stoked.  Then he went off to choke in the post season and hasn't recovered.  He is on pace to get about 122 hits this year.  I believe he makes $15 mil a year.  He doesn't play the field so I calculate each hit to cost the oraganization $123,000.  Pretty steep if you ask me.

Hafner doesn't make anything close to $15M/year.  He's making $8.05M this year.  Just an FYI....

Does his new deal start next year?  I could have sworn I saw 13-15 mil somewhere.   At any rate, I sure hope he breaks out of his funk and improves on his .211 BA

It starts next year but he got money added to last year's and this year's salaries.  Even so, he's never gonna be making $15M a year.  Here's his breakdown for your veiwing pleausre:

2008:  $8.05M
2009:  $11.5M
2010:  $11.5M
2011:  $13M
2012:  $13M
2013:  $13M club option (or $2.75M buyout)

I agree, he needs to pick it up.  Not as concerned about the batting average as I am the OBP and power/run production.  He needs to improve those if he wants to stay a middle of the lineup hitter.

any way you shop it we are still overpaying for a flash in the pan guy who has a hole in his bat. i wished it wernt so.

watch him look at the fast ball up and in. remember the one he used to turn around and send back to the hole in north dakota he came from. now it laughs at him as it goes by. this dude is on the down fall and we are gonna have to eat him because of his horrid plate skills.

As Hafner continues to suck it up, it makes it more painful to look at his salary and length of contract.  What a drop off a couple years can make.  He was hitting like an MVP two years ago before he took that pitch to the face.  He used to be the player that you always felt like could get a hit every time he was up.  Now every time he is at the plate you think it will either be a strikeout or ground out to the second baseman.  It would be great if he could shock us all and actually hit the ball this year, but I won't get my hopes up.

Man, I wish I could 'suck it up' yet still drive in 100 runs.

And I bet 90% of the hitters in the league wish that too.

LOL Hermie.

But Hafner is on pace to have 14 HR. and 75 RBI's which I have to admit is a little slow for a big time middle of the order power hitter, but who's to say he doesen't turn it around? Those projections by ESPN.com are a little off because he will be hitting the DL soon so IF THIS PLAY CONTINUES Travis Hafner should be at about 12 HR's 68 RBI's which i got to say is not meritting his extension. But for the Indians faithful lets just hope he can turn this around.
