anyone think Shaun Alexander would make a good fit ?  he could be got at the right price, and still has a few good years in him like Moss, and Lord knows NE needs some help at RB.

umm.... Marroney, falk and morris actually did a good job last year, if marroney does not get hurt this season expect him to get near or over a thousand yards rushing. The pats can use that money on more defense......

Alexander is softer than three sheets of Downy.  No way I want him suiting up for the Pats.  He's good when there's a lineman opening up a gaping hole in the defense but we've all seen him struggle otherwise.  After Hutch left for the Vikings, it became evident that Alexander's MVP season had more to do with the beef up front than it did his own individual talent.

Besides, we've got three good RBs as is.  Spending the money on a prima donna like Alexander would be a waste if you ask me.  I think the Pats should just stay put with what they've got right now on both sides of the ball.  Unless some of the new corners struggle a lot, this roster has no visible weaknesses and a lot of strengths.

umm.... Marroney, falk and morris actually did a good job last yearI agree, and I expect them to do a good job again this year also, especially if none of them get hurt. Our RB core is just fine. They just picked up rookie RB Ben Jarvus, Green-Ellis a week of two ago also, and I am sure there is a reason behind that. I am sure somebody will pick up Alexander, but I do not see that Pats doing it.

I say no - I don't think he has much left in the tank and would just take away carries from better backs - and at what cost?

The Patriots problem at RB isn't going to be signed by signing a veteran with little left in the tank. They need a young replacement for Kevin Faulk, not the next guy on the list for a hip replacement surgery.

Alexander will be a good backup RB whereever he goes, but NE doesn't need a backup for the next 2-3 years.

Correction: It isn't going to be SOLVED by signing Shaun Alexander.

It might be a good idea to find some other part of the team too upgrade like the D-line richard seymore did not do well in the playoffs and we need more pressure...running back doesint help that, besides why is everyone so dead set on a new back and for what reason???

If you're looking for more pressure on the D, the line isn't really the place to go for that.  Granted, our D line does well putting pressure on the QB and helping to collapse the pocket, but their primary responsibility is to tie up those offensive lineman and allow the linebackers to make plays.  I think we did well in the draft and through Free Agency with the LBs we added.  That should bring more pressure on opposing QBs.
