Now I wouldn't call the Gamecocks a premier team, but even they are undefeated against the Buckeyes in bowl games, beating them in back to back Outback Bowls in 2001 and 2002.  The best part about it is that in 2001, when Carolina's 1,000 yard rusher, Derek Watson, was out due to injury.....in comes Ryan Brewer, a former Mr. Football in the State of Ohio who was spurned by Ohio State.  He collects 109 yards rushing, 92 yards receiving, and scores 3 TDs.  That, my friends, is called payback!!

I remember that. I live in Covington, Ohio; and that is 10 min. away from Troy, Ohio where Ryan Brewer was from and that was a big deal around here. He tore it up in that game, and that one game is the game that caused John Cooper to lose his job... err wait; it was actually Brewer himself that caused the firing of Cooper. Love it...

Yes it's true that the Buckeyes lost in the NC game the last two years and that's a mjor disappointment. However really that has nothing to do with this season. If OSU can beat USC and remain unbeaten in the Big-10 they will be back and maybe will win this time!

It's very doubtful LSU will return and unlikely Florida will return to the NC game this season. The Gamecocks - hey great victories in the Outback Bowl. Have they ever played an NC game?

I would rather not go to a NC game in my college career rather than go to one and lose big time, not to mention two years in a row? I will keep my dignity sorry, It is just because of the weak conference schedule. Even the non-conference games are below par next to USC and Texas. Imagine if they would have played either of them in week 8 rather than week 2 or 3. It wouldn't be pretty on OSU's part because that is when USC hit there stride last year about that time. I think you will take them in week 3, but If you do lose that game and go undefeated the rest of the year and there is another team with a one lose season assuming that one goes undefeated; OSU would be out sorry.

south carolina fans act like beating 8 and 7 win Ohio State teams QBed by one of the worst QBs in Ohio State history (Steve Bellisari was a saftey playing QB) are their greatest wins ever

I am not a Gamecocks fan in the slightest regards. I just don't like Ohio State. Besides whether you like it or not Ryan Brewer was the "only" reason that John Cooper was fired. Alright maybe not the only reason, but definitely the deciding factor. I just love how somebody who I grew up watching in high school taring apart his favorite school growing up because they thought he was too small to come and play for them. Like I said... Love it.

Ouch!  And to think Lou Holtz was there... wasn't he there after he left ND? That guy got blasted by Ohio State when Eddie George ran over them both times they played and then he gets sweet payback with an Ohio guy rejected by big brother. I feel the pain but I'm not mad since Brewer tore it up we got rid of Coop and got Tressel.

A national championship and a few more appearances. Most act like Tressel is a bum and can't win the big one etc. I could care less if the SEC wins every game as long as we beat missagain, meatchicken or the team up north etc.

Tress has 4 rings from Youngstown State which had a ridicoulus playoff system...I mean one year they were 14-2 and won a national title. He also got his one for the thumb in 2002. To say or think because we lose to SEC schools and that we are scrubs is unreal and some people need to check into their local hospital for some drug screening/dependency issues.

But thank you Ryan Brewer....haleluya!!! I hope your doing well in arena football or the CFL or bagging groceries at Walmart or whereever you may be because you brought the mighty OSU to its knees baby! Good for you!  And what did the lowly OSU get Hmmmm.... "In Tressel we trust!"  God bless him and gods speed to him  Chant it with me!!! MVP MVP Brewer and power house South Carolina ...man what would have happened had they three peated against the scrubs at OSU? We may have found a way to resurrect Woody Hayes had they three peated. Damm it!

Ryan Brewer was good but not that good.

Go 2-10-1 against rival Meatchicken probably had more to do with OSU firing CFB Hall Of Fame Coach John Cooper...but then again I'm no expert.

But if that is the take  by the majority ; That it was all Ryan Brewer then good on him cause we got Tress now and at least he has gotten us to some national Championship games that coop never did as well as thump Missagain. I'm thinking is it 4 in a row and going on 5?

I never said OSU was scrubs, I was just stating that your conference is full of a bunch of scrubs. OSU usually puts out good NFL caliber players that tend to have success. I think the only reason that you beat Michigan every year was due to the coach. Now that he is gone you better keep a better eye on them. I am not of big fan of Rich Rodriguez because he is a system coach just like Urban Meyer, but just the change period will cause some better things going on up there compared to what they have been like.

Funny how that works!  Same could be said for UM dominating OSU in the 90's.

Fortunately for OSU, this will take 2-3 years for the UM program to catch up.  But fortunately for the Wolverines, they should continue their winning streak vs ND.  UM will have a very shaky, rebuilt, transitioning offense this year, but will have a good defense.  ND will be shaky on both sides of the ball.

Way to keep things in context here, Memphis.  Congrats to S Carolina!  Two of the better teams in their history beat two of the weaker OSU teams of the past few decades.  Even then, it took a couple of buckeyes (Holtz and Brewer) to beat the Buckeyes.  Despite the 2-0 record, Gamecocks can only dream about reaching elite status.

i am sick and tired of people bitchin about how ohio state hasnt won a national championship in there past 2 tries but y dont we bitch about UCLA losing in the final 4 the past 3 years. we never even talked about that when they lost all 3 times but we still talk about ohio state losing 2 times to this day! even about the 1st national championship! and south carolina beat us when we were average. our qb was terrible then! i already forget his name! and ohio state will beat usc in pasadena. i guarantee it!

I think it was pretty clear in my original message that South Carolina is not a premier team.  It's the fact that they are 2-0 against Ohio State in bowl games.  No excuses girls about who was quarterback then or who was coach, heck South Carolina had a combined record of 1-21 the previous two seasons before those bowl games.

It is the irony that a former Mr. Ohio in football who was shunned by OSU was the one that made them pay.  That's what makes the story juicy.

You can pull the Hillary Clinton, non-issue arguments all you want...."When has South Carolina won a national championship?".....but that does not change the fact that Ohio State is winless against a mediocre SEC team that comprises over 20% of the undefeated SEC bowl victories over OSU.

Stick that in your buckeye!!

What winning streak? What 2 games. They only beat us last year because our team was in dismal, but it will be different now that all of Tyrone Willingham's players are gone. We will surprise a lot of people this year just wait.

You will only beat USC in week 3 just because of that reason right there. Heck the same reason you beat Texas last year, but lost the year before. If you were to play USC near the end of the season about week 8 it would be a different story because they need to still figure some things out on both sides of the ball; where as OSU is already pretty much set. Besides even if you beat USC you will still get at least one loss. Illinois. They beat you at you own game last year on your home field, imagine what it will be like when they are at home.

Also the reason nobody talks about UCLA is because nobody cares about college basketball as much as college football because the one-and-done rule is ruining the game right now. That though is another story altogether. Besides that was the final four, now if it was like your case and actually the NT game there might be some talk. You just play too weak of a conference to get any real respect unless you can get there this year and win it. You have lost a lot of respect for losing two years in a row. On the other hand you can also shut a lot of people up if you can manage to get there three years in a row and finally win one. But that is just near impossible. My bad I forgot how easy your schedule was, it seems pretty possible to get there. Just don't count on much if it is a SEC opponent though.

irish eyes give me a break.  Wisconsin, Michigan, and Penn State (with the latter two possible NC contenders)  were  highly ranked teams last year in the preseason.  Granted the non-conference schedule was ver
