After spending a few post college years in Detroit, I have more than a pssing interest in the Tigers. It works out fine as they are in the AL. But, JohnU, you know I was being sarcastic and more than welcome your take on the Cubs, Reds, Baseball, the Railcats, and all else you choose to comment on.
"duck ... to be truthful, the objective IS to win the World Series.
This franchise has achieved all other goals, measurably and beyond.
Win the pennant and the World Series.
As I have observed baseball for more than 50 years, I can say that teams like the Cubs can effectively achieve that. The pretenders usually show their flaws by the end of July.
If the Cubs don't make major changes with what they have, it's likely they are comfortable with it. Hendry and Piniella are among the most logical baseball people in the league.
Also, they are realistic. The top players have to be healthy."
JOHNU11--I can't stand you and all your friendly comments, dude. Why can't you be rude and more of jerk?
Yeah, my objective for the Cubs is the ultimate championship, but unfortunately, there are somethings I just don't say until they happen. Back-to-back N.L. Central titles would be great. And winning the N.L. pennant were my first two objectives then I'll focus my passion and luck rituals towards a World Series title. This is one of my favorite Cub teams to watch in my lifetime, better than the '89, '98, and '03 team.
I see the team is complete but they are missing a few pieces. I'm hoping that Ronny Cedeno or Felix Pie can play into one of those roles. And I'm hoping that Rich Hill will come back to the Majors with a chip on his shoulder. Would love to see someone step-up in the bullpen and help Marmol out. I have faith in Howry.
As for the Reds, will this be the year that they trade Griffey and Dunn?
I'm hoping that Rich Hill will come back to the Majors with a chip on his shoulder.
I have a lot of faith in Hill! (pun intended) He is a very talented pitcher. He can be inconsistent as all hell, but very talented. The Cubs will need him to achieve all of our goals. I think he will be back here in a few weeks & right as rain. You can flip a coin as to why but his numbers aside from the walks were not horrendous.
Just want to add that I enjoy reading your guys posts. Like Hawk said there are the usual suspects that always show up & deserve a kick in the head. I would be more than willing to lend my size 15's to the task!
JOHNU11--I can't stand you and all your friendly comments, dude. Why can't you be rude and more of jerk?A half-dozen women in this grand and glorious country could weigh in on that but none of them know squat about baseball ...
Frankly, and lots of folks know this, I am much too old to engage in trash talk, unless it's mild fun. If I decide to write on here that I think a team is bad, well ... I write that I think the team is bad. Usually, it's a bad team or it wouldn't even be in the conversation. Knowing that a team is bad makes it easier to claim that it's true.
And we had a couple months worth of fun last summer with the Jacque Jones trip to .280. My thought at the time was that JJ, by virtue of being forced to stay with the Cubs, was destined by a higher power to do something that would be unforgettable in Cubs history. Turns out, that didn't happen.
Or not.
Dunn and Griffey trades?
Take a close look at Donkey. Here's a guy who has baseball firmly by the nuts. Doesn't have to go, doesn't have to stay, doesn't have to get better, just do what he does, wherever he does it. He's Dave Kingman without the bad attitude.
Griffey ... I predict to be on the DL within the month. Something is wrong with him and nobody's saying anything.
A half-dozen?
They all say "we missed you, Johnny ... so try not to move around so much. We can get a better shot that way."
As for JJ, I see the guy as a decent outfielder who joins a list of about 13,000 other similar players throughout baseball history. The Cubs have one or two on their roster this year too.
