WVU wouldn't necessarily "blow out" anyone, but the way they played against Oklahoma, any team would have had their hands full with them.

Ohio State would have had a real tough time with the Mountaineer's speed. Would they have blown them out? We'll never know. That choke against Pittsburgh ruined that match p.

Beanie would have run for 500.Yeah, kinda reminds me of this kid down here in an "anonymus" Texas HS named Weenie Bells and he was GREAT during the regular season against average competition. When he hit the playoffs though, he played up against a better defensive unit.  He had 2 good runs and then STRUGGLED mightily to get 41 yards on 17 more carries and was absolutely shut down when his team needed him to get a few first downs to stem the momentum. His team lost the game and was out of the running.....

To add to this. Being a long time WV fan, do I believe that we could have beaten any team in the country if we would have played them with the same desire we played Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl....... YES. Would we blow out any team in the country.... I dont think that statement would be true...... but win the game....... yes. The game against Pitt was a learning tool and an example to all that when you think you are better than any other team and you dont give everything you have to win....... you will find the results pretty much the same. I fault the coaching staff for the loss to Pitt and a I also give a big applause to the Pitt staff for how they coached the game. Pat White getting hurt was a set back, but he alone does not make the team. You must play every down with heart , determination, and all you have each and every play. After the Pitt loss, I told all who knows how much I love WV football how I really felt. They got exactly what the wanted. If you dont want it bad enough and leave everything you have on the field, you will get the same results. Had WV wanted to play badly enough for the national championship, they would have done whatever it took to win that game. Despite the poor coaching. Pitt played a great game on defence. They simply wanted it more. As proved many times last year.... The better team didnt win......... The team with the most heart did. In a rivalry game........no matter what the ranking or record, the team that wants it most......... wins.

But, play the way they did against Pitt and anyone could beat them.

Even Pitt.

Let's face it, winning the Championshp require the stars to be aligned. Yes, you must be a good team with talent, coaching etc... but you also need other teams to do or not to do what is outside the norm. Then you need luck to boot. Then you need to preparation and execution at the perfect time.

I truly believe that LSU in 07 (and most of the previous BCS Champions) were destined to win because if you look at ALL the variables.................. it was a truly amazing sequence of events of which any one of thousands could have changed that destiny.

I dont know which WVU fan has said we would have blown EVERYONE out in the bowl game.  We did lose to PITT and USF.  Last year WVU was a very good team though.  I think it was one of the teams in the country that Could have beaten any team in the country.  I think that if WVU had won vs PITT that we would have had a very good shot at being the national champs. Still that is speculation and not fact.   I think its kind of funny that someone had to start a thread about it.  I dont see any "USC WOULD HAVE BLOWN OUT ANYONE!" threads.  They were the pick for national champs at the start of the season last year. Some thought they should have been in the NCG at seasons end.  yet they lost two games as well including a loss to Stanford.  Six a one and a half a dozen of the other last season.  A Million different scenarios are possible in each fan's thoughts.

Closed minded could include, but not limited to, trying to judge an entire fanbase on the overblown opinion of one fan.  Percy makes a very good point.  I honestly believe that WV would have shown very well against any team in the nation, and beaten most, if they had played them on the night of the Fiesta Bowl.  Very much unlike our dismal showing against the Gators in the 93 Sugar.  If the team had not been monumentally outcoached and outplayed by Pitt, we could have been in the NC game.  That, however, is what arguments are made of.  The "what ifs".

WVU had a good year... Beat OU in Bowl granted... but blowing out Georgia, the OSU or USC??

Maybe not so much...

Take USC... at end of Season they were healthy (save for Patrick Turner) and with a Month of prep handled a GOOD Illinois team!  USC's defense ended up Ranked Second in Total Defense and #2 Against the RUN!!!

WVU was likely the 5th Best Team in nation but LSU, Georgia, USC, and the OSU were a NOTCH above!!!

One man's opinion!!
