Wanting to take a little survey here to see how everyone would rank the 12 coaches currently in the SEC. In order for me to remain unbiased I will not rank them but only list their names.
Les Miles - LSU
Bobby Petrino - Arkansas
Phillip Fulmer - Tennessee
Mark Richt - Georgia
Steve Spurrier - South Carolina
Tommy Tuberville - Auburn
Urban Meyer - Florida
Sylvester Crum - Miss St.
Nick Saban - Alabama
Houston Nutt - Ole Miss
Rich Brooks - Kentucky
Bobby Johnson - Vandy

At least 5 of the 12 have 1 MNC. That's not too bad.

Lets keep things real here. Saban built up LSU from scratch. Here was a slepping giant that he woke up with the quickness of ease. Miles is a great coach but he came to a pretty palace.........that Saban built. LSU was downright horrible before Saban got there. It was a 90% chance of a W when Florida would face them.
Steve Spurrier stepped onto the SEC and College football scene and took it by storm. Changed the way football is played in the whole conference. Took over a program that had never even won a conference title. Won 6 SEC titles (should be 7) and played in back to back National Titles after only 6 years at a SEC bottom feeder program. He's the #1`reason today that Florida is a national power. He won a ACC title @ Duke........that about wraps things up for me.
- Steve Spurrier

I'm sure Tennessee fans will tell you to never ever ever rate Fulmer ahead of Spurrier.
That doesn't make much sense.

Percy,
That was just a list of names...not ranked.
My list:
1. Urban Meyer
2. Les Miles
3. Nick Saban
4. Mark Richt
5. Spurrier
6. tt
7. Petrino
8. Fulmer
9. Nutt
10. Brooks
11. Croom
12. Johnson
I don't think there's a weak coach among the 12....if Miles beats Meyer this year and has a strong year overall, he goes to the top IMO.

I'd have to say......
1. Urban Meyer....born and raised in Ohio, went to college in Ohio, and started his coaching career at Ohio State.
2. Nick Saban....although not born in Ohio, went to college and played football in Ohio. He also, started his coaching career in Ohio, and was a one time assistant at Ohio State. Went on to gain fame as Big10 coach at Michigan State.
3. Les Miles - Born and raised in Ohio, then had bad fall, hit his head, and went to Michigan. The rest is history......
4-12....can be put in any order

Have to place Johnson ahead of Brooks just because any guy who can repeatedly get Vandy to 5 wins must be one hell of a coach.

He won a ACC title @ Duke..
I wish you would stop saying he won an ACC title at Duke. Spurrier is the only one who ever (wrongly) claims that. Well, I guess you and Spurrier are the only ones. LOL. The truth is Duke and Virginia each finished 6-1 in the ACC in 1989 and Virginia beat Spurrier and Duke 49-28. Virginia played Illinois in the Citrus Bowl on New Year's Day and Duke played Texas Tech in the All American Bowl. Do you really think the ACC would send their "champion" to the All American Bowl? Seems pretty obvious that Virginia, not Duke, won the ACC championship that year, despite what the egotistical Spurrier always says.
As far as the thread is concerned, we are talking now, not 10-15 years ago. I might have had him 1st in the 90s, but you can't possibly be serious when you put him #1 in the SEC RIGHT NOW. Spurrier doesn't have the same fire he did ten years ago. As a result, he hasn't recruited as well and maybe hasn't quite worked as hard. Since he has been at South Carolina, 3 different coaches have won the SEC East, and he isn't one of them. He is 11-13 in the SEC the last 3 years, with only an Independence Bowl and a Liberty Bowl to show for it, he has no chance to win it this year, and you want to rank him as the best coach in the SEC right now? I won't spend time doing a list right now, but it's safe to say Spurrier is in the bottom half.

Spurrier is the only one who ever (wrongly) claims that.
He's been the only one huh? A little exaggeration?
Give Spurrier the talent that LSU, Florida or Georgia has and yes he's the best coach right now. Lets not forget he is at South Carolina a notorious bottom feeder not only IC but in general. Their bowl history is alarming.
Looks like he took a job that won't make him very successful but he's already beat Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. Almost knocked off LSU and Auburn. Not bad for that program. Beat Clemson OOC and allowed his defensive coord to flop against Missouri (Spurrier called a great game) Going 8-5 or 6-6 isn't failing @ SC. They've been competitive.
Send Spurrier to VT and your Staduim would increase, you'll have a 2* QB in the Heisman race. We'll let your homeboy coach the defense and special teams.

Well..I have to tell you my SEC HOMER freinds I am looking down the list of how you are rating coaches in your league..IMHO if you don't think Sly Croom isn't working miracles at Miss State and Bobby Johnson the same at Vandy..you all are smoking some of that ARkansas finest...
And please don't bubble up the past of Spurrier winning at Duke..it is just one more argument to show time and time again how any one can win in the weak ACC.....sorry PC couldn't resist!!
