i never said it wasn't a big deal...just that "numbers-wise" the only big differnce is batting average.   i don't hear anyone arguing with that? you just keep telling be his OB percentage and the difference in BA (wich i keep telling you is not good)  please get some valid points and quit telling me about his batting average and OBS people.

what the hell do you "gain" with Freel?  he is patterson from the otherside of the plate.  only patterson actually has the ability to hit HR's and freel just thinks he can. freel is a utility player...a great utility player.  if there is going to be a switch in CF for the Reds it needs to be Bruce and he needs to play every day.

Ok, this KCFAN1 kid obviously either A, doesnt watch Reds games, or B, is a Dusty Baker plant. Did you actually say earlier in the thread, "Dude, its just May give the guy a chance?" Because honestly, you're either a troll for Dusty or you are pretty clueless to the game of baseball.

Fantasy baseball has no correlation to real baseball. Yeah, Troy Tulowitski may outscore David Eckstein by a million points but if i am assembling a BASEBALL team, I take David Eckstein all day long over Tulo.

Comparing the baseball players Corey Patterson and Carl Crawford together is nincompoopery at its best. Just plain idiotic even. 50+steal years every year for Crawford. Patterson did it hmmm...lemme check...never. We've already mentioned the life time differences of batting average being almost 50 points, and 600+ at bats every year for Crawford....1 year with 600 for Patterson. Slugging % is better, fielding % is better, every single state is not only superior to Patterson, but VASTLY superior.

Stats are fine but its really more about the impact of a player. Corey Patterson only has a negative impact on this team, Carl Crawford is all plusses for his. The Patterson bashing is 100% warranted when you are getting picked off of first base, dropping routine fly balls that DIRECTLY cost your team a win, and when you are batting .200 PLUS, standing in the way of the Cincinnati Reds biggest prospect maybe ever, in Jay Bruce.

Corey Patterson is a pile. There is nothing else to be said about this.

I won't argue that Freel isn't the best hitter in the world but right now he is hitting the baseball and Paterson is simply not.  To me Patterson is just a hired mercanary and not a very good one at that, where Freel is a person that you have known your whole life and would take a bullet for you..

Freel shouldn't be the everyday starter either and neither should Patterson, I would much rather see Hopper there or give Bruce his chance.

KCFan1,

You should become Paterson's agent becuase I bet his agent doesn't try to sell him to other baseball clubs as hard as you do to Reds' fans.

I am a HUGE Reds FAN!!  and watch a lot of games.

so i take it that if you were manager a guy would make a coupld mistakes and you would banish him...good plan.  you can really get guys to play for you when you take that approach.  i am not sure what you expect out of Corey?  he is a platoon player and good stop gap until Bruce is called up.  that is all that i am arguing.  I am a huge Jay Bruce fan but am not like all the other idiots that think he can come to the majors at 21 and be an allstar.  just does not work like that. very few players that young can actually help a team that is trying to win it all.

last year the D-back's thought they could do it with Upton and look at what he did as a major leager....nothing.  he was awful!  if we want to contend this year we need guys that can go out there every day...we have a rough cast in CF but platooning Freel and Patterson equally is a good thing, not a bad.  that is all I am saying.

it is crazy to me how people can sit on there couch and call these guys "piles" and other things.  to me a real reds fan would have faith that a guy can come into cincy and turn things around and find a home....not banish him after 1 subpar months for the reds.  guess that is why he is a major league and you are sitting on your coach eating potato chips calling for his replacment...

seeing reds fans act like Cubs fans makes me sick!!! have some faith!  even if it does not end up working out....root FOR THE REDS.  not pick one to blame their struggles on.

DO YOU THING COPAT!  AT LEAST YOU KNOW YOU HAVE ONE REAL REDS FAN ROOTING FOR YOU TO SUCCEED!

I have faith in the players on the team.  I am pist off at Dusty not really Corey.  I have faith in my players producing and those players were Hopper and Freel.  I don't dislike Corey I just didn't want him on the team we have a superstar in the making in AAA and we have two guys already that were on the team that busted their asses for the Reds(Hopper and Freel) and then here comes Dusty's boy Corey to take the starting role.  When Wayne was still the GM he should have told Dusty to stick all his player recommendations up his ass and just do what he was paid to do and manage the product that he is given to him.

Don't ever compare me to Cubs fans becuase they don't have any idea what it is like to win even though the as Reds fan I am to used to losing these days and I am tired of it just like every other Reds fan.

I think your appreciation for Patterson is due more to your fantasy team and hoping he turns it around and you are not being realistic.

We ALL want Corey Patterson to succeed, because then that means we'd more than likely be winning, or at least scoring runs. But the fact is, he is NOT succeeding in nearly everything that's important. He is normally reliable defensively, but dropped a HUGE fly ball the other day that let to an extra unearned run, and thus another loss. He never gets on base, shown by his paltry .268 OBP and .200 BA. Sad thing is, those aren't much worse than his career averages.

I'm still dumbfounded as to why Norris Hopper got no playing time even when he was healthy (he still is healthy, just on the DL with some bogus elbow injury). He hit nearly .333 last year, played spectacular defense, stole bases, had bunt hits nearly every game, and GOT ON BASE. Something we sorely need in a leadoff hitter. Ryan Freel is getting on base right now, but we all know his all out style of play will get him hurt or worn down before the season is over. Norris Hopper is just like a toned down version of Freel that can last the whole season, just give him the chance. Unfortunately Dusty's man love on C-Patt is going to keep him from getting any playing time. Hopefully The Jock has enough to sense to cut this heap of garbage before he hurts us any further.

Remember back before the season started when the Reds were rumored to be interested in Corey Patterson AND Kenny Lofton? What if we signed Lofton? Does anybody think we'd be in a different situation than we are right now, or would it not that make much of a difference...
