This was reported today and is according to his AAU coach Jazzy Hartwell.  Despite the meeting with new coach Trent Johnson where Morgan apparently confirmed that he would stay with the Tigers, as of today it is rumored that he wants out of his LOI and is looking to end up at UCLA.  Can anybody confirm or deny this?

According to both Trans World News and The Topeka Capital Journal reported that J'mison wanted to release his LOI as of today. But that's as far as anyone knows to this point. A week and half ago, J'mison was confirming his commitment after he talked to Trent Johnson. Prior to that both his AAU and High School coaches have different opinions on where he's heading.

Suppose he was able to get a release, can he transfer to another school and be eligible  for the 2008/2009 season?  It seems that because there was a coaching change he has that option but I seem to remember that there is also a time frame to complete a petition.

From what I've read about NCAA football LOI's, they are binding and have a one-year penalty (petition or not) even if the school's coach is fired or resigns.  I imagine that it would be no different for basketball as the LOI process is governed by the same association.

That becomes an interesting decision for Morgan at that point.  UCLA will still be in good shape in '09/'10 but they'll be without Collison, Shipp, Luc and most likely Holiday.

NCAA rule in basketball is slightly different. If LSU granted the release, then J'mison Morgan can play for us this upcoming season. Otherwise, he must sit for a year.

Trent Johnson has shown us his "sour grapes" attitude at the end of the season when we got the "call" at the end of the regulation. He may withhold J'mison's release just to shove his thumb to us. We're hoping that' he's not. But J'mison's brother thinks Trent will grant the release.

Firstly, Trent Johnson has absolutely no say of whether Morgan can be released or not. That is up to the administration.

Secondly, I can't get too excited about a player who says he is coming to UCLA for "better exposure." Just what we need, another one-and-done to accompany Holiday in the post-season exodus to the NBA. Nevertheless, I know he will be a usefule asset for ONE year at least, so I guess we should take what we can get.

Morgan would be the missing piece in the class of 08 with morgan there is a very nice starting lineup of recruits
Center- Morgan
Power Forward- Gordon
Wing- Lee
Shooting Guard- Holliday
Point guard- Anderson

Let's look at this objectively, guys:

Holiday and Morgan will be one-and-done no matter what. Neither care about UCLA. They merely want "exposure." Howland will have to teach them to be team players, because all they want to do is impress scouts.

Either Lee or Anderson will be like Chace Stanback and will transfer after their freshman year because they won't get much playing time. Sorry, but UCLA doesn't recruit guys like Tyler Hansborough who love the tradition of their school and play till they are juniors or seniors. We recruit guys who could give a sh!t less about UCLA, and merely want the L.A. exposure. So unless a guy is playing 30+ minutes a game, he will transfer if he is any good.

This WILL be our starting lineup next year:

PG - Darren Collison (Anderson and Lee backup)

SG - Jrue Holiday (Roll backup)

SF - Josh Shipp (Roll backup)

PF - Mbah a Moute (Keefe backup)

C - J'Mison Morgan (Gordon and Aboya backup)

Yeah, we also said Kevin Love was the missing piece that would give us our 12th banner. Instead, we were outmanned yet again in the Final Four.

We also said Ben Olson was the missing piece for our football team when he committed. We have yet to win a pac10 title since  '98.

So many "missing pieces" Bruin athletics. It's hard for me to get excited anymore.
