I want to see a retraction in about mid-August when the Orioles are 56-70 and about 20 games out of first.

Retraction of what? That the Orioles are off to their best start in years and that players and coaches are, right now, optimistic about the future for the first time in a long time.  Even if they are 56-70 in August, how could that possibly justify a retraction of anything in this article. Do you know what a retraction is?

Retraction of what?  They finally have an actual plan to move forward, anything resembling a .500 record this year is a bonus.

I mean, he didn't say something stupid like it will take 86 years for them to win their next title, which would be the year 2069.  No, the Orioles aren't that pathetic, thankfully.

Seriously. The article was about how the Orioles are of to a good start and look like they are finally going in the right direction for the future. Doesn't say they were going to finish above .500 or win their division. They might be 56-70 in August but thats not what the article was about. Plus this is baseball anything could happen they could also be 70-56 to. Not like other teams in the past haven't had surprise years.

The precedent was set with Joe Girardi and the Marlins a few years ago.

Barring another team winning 100+ games, if the Orioles play around .500 baseball, Dave Trembley is your AL Manager of the Year.  It would be the only logical decision since he's coaching a team that has had arguably  ts two "best players" traded away.  Getting around .500 in the competitive AL East would be a feat in its own right.

Of course, he could fall on his face and get fired mid-season like Leo Mazonne.  Here's hoping that doesn't happen.

This Orioles team is not nearly as good as that team Girardi had with the Marlins. The 06 Marlins had D-Train when he was still somewhat good, Cabrera the best he had been in years, breakout seasons from Hanley Ramirez, Scott Olsen, Dan Uggla, and Josh Willingham. The Marlins rotation as a whole was strong. Girardi didn't deserve that Manager of the year award when he hasLarry Beinfest calling him in the dugout to make managerial decisions. Look at the Marlins now without Cabrera and D-Train. Mike Jacobs is having a breakout season, the catching situation has improved greatly, Willingham before he got hurt was pounding the ball and Hermida is coming through big in the clutch. It is the same team, only difference is instead of having Cabreras bat in the middle of the lineup it is now Mike Jacobs.

People will disagree with me on Girardi, but just look at how he is handling the Yankees now that he has to actually manage without Beinfest coaching him through games.

If the Orioles finish even .500 I believe their manager deserves the Manager of the Year award.

Wow.... venom being spewed by Oriole fans (and it's not at Angelos, for a change).  First thing is first... Lee Mazzili and Sam Perlozzo had the same "feel good" start to their tenures.  That turned out pretty well for the the O's, right?   This article is WAY too premature to say that the O's are turning the corner.  If they FINISH the season anywhere near the .500 mark, I will admit they may have something going.  But to say, 30 games into the season, that the organization in on the comeback is silly.  II guess you are the same folks who bury the Yankees every year in May, only to be humbled when they finish with 90-100 wins and make the playoffs AGAIN.  I hate the Yankees, but I NEVER will coun them out.

As for the Orioles, prove it over a full season and make believers out of us all.  Until then, just act happy when other teams fans overrun your ballpark (and eat at Boog's... yum!!).  I'll see you at "South Fenway" on May 30th, along with 20,000 other Sox fans.

PS - For my buddy, htinal58, you may want to try something other than the 86 year World Series thing.... seems kinda weak, and outdated, when the Sox have won 2 of the past 4, and the O's haven't sniffed the postseason in over a decade.  What is it, 25 years and counting for Baltimore?   You may just get to 86 if you're not careful.
