I'd like to mention the 1985 Flyers here. Our current team reminds me so much of that awesomely suprisingly quick team. Lindbergh(silence)-Biron, Poulin-Umberger, Ron Sutter-Lupol etc etc. I played a simulation and guess what, 2007-2008 Flyers defeat 2007-2008 Penguins in 7. I wonder if these Flyers can cause enough havoc to score 10 goals in a game, the 1985 team did that so many times. Broad Street Bullies Lite aka 2008 Flyers, sure seem to have alot of gritty Sutter-type players on them, Oh and Thank You Paul Holmgren. Youth and speed is much like that 1985 team.
I love the Bowling for soup mentality. Fending your trade not for the money but for the love of the game, doing what you love to do to stay alive. Isn't that what is meant by bowling for soup's name?
That team made it to the cup finals and although losing in five game to the probably the best team of all time, they gave the Oilers all they could handle. The youth movement was the similarity I'd like to talk about here. The resurgence and sucessful turn over of a dilapitated aging lineup. Whatever the result of this year's team we are very proud of them.
And just like the band "Bowling for Soup"s song says, you're 'still preoccupied with 1985.' The game has changed since '85 that's why these Flyers will probably come up just short. Even though I'd like to see them win, I'm still hedging my bets. Philly sports have seen bigger hearbreak scenarios.
