Thome HAS to go. He is the teams highest paid player, and he cant hit anything. this might be a slump, but a 30 game slump? Let alone his terrible Average last season. We spend way to much money on this guy.
As much as it hurts to say, i think getting rid of Paul Konerko would REALLY help the whitesox. He too has never been the same since 2005. I dont think he hit his own weight last year,, and he certainly is not this year. His constent double play ball he drills right at the 3rd basemen at least once a game is getting tireing.
Getting rid of these guys would really help the team out. Josh Fields can play first base, and having josh fields in instead of konerko is not only 10x cheaper, he will probably bat better too. Then there is the DH spot. I think this is the most over rated position in sports. The DH's get paid millions of dollars to play about a total of 3 minutes a game. All the do is bat. We could get a decent DH for no higher then 5 Million dollars.
With the money will would have by getting rid of two of our highest paid players (who now stink), we could resign Joe Crede (who is the man) And sign either a star free agent, or at least two 6 Mil players.

Hey Go Bearssssssss.... I could not agree with you more! I have been saying the same things for the past couple weeks! This team needs a major shakeup!
Jim Thome - He is hitting .214 and is getting paid $15.6M this year. Great guy... a lot of great years behind him... but the end is near for big Jim. Trade him now while he still has some value.
Paul Konerko - One of my favorite players over the past several years! Won us a ring in 2005 with some timely HR's and better than advertised defense at 1B. Getting paid $12M for hitting .234. You know there are teams in the AL and NL that would love to get their hands on this guy. I see Josh Fields playing first while Joe Crede is still in town.
Jermaine Dye - Gotta love JD. World Series MVP! Great arm and power. But at 34 and having played 13 years... time to think about giving Brian Anderson and Jerry Owens more time in the outfield to see what they can do.
Jose Contreras - Has actually shown that he has some innings left in that old a$$ arm of his. Trade him NOW while people might be fooled that he can last a full season! Bring up Lance Broadway and lets see what he can do!
I love the White Sox like the rest of you! But, I also want to see a winner... soon! Not going to happen until we get younger and faster!

Why do you cheer for a manager that perpetuates the "second fiddle", us vs. the world persona? White Sox fans shouldn't worry about the Cubs, except for the two weekends they play each other, but idiots like Ozzie are constantly looking for scapegoats to blame for their own failures.
Like you said, the team had a bad week, what does that have to do with the Cubs? I'm a Cubs fan and when they blow a game I only care about what they can do next time to avoid a meltdown...not what the Sox are doing.
Ozzie should quit worrying about his own insecurities, the Cubs, money and making a name for himself in the media, and instead he should show some respect for the game!
And don't get lured into his obnoxiousness...because the last thing the city of Chicago likes are whiners.

until you get that self-centered psychopath out of the managers chair, your team will be destined for instability.

Get your facts straight. We're not paying Thome all that money, only about half of it. Part of the deal with Philly was that they would pay the remainder.

go bearssssssss--thome and paulie are still driving in runs, but i too wonder about the "team value" of both, especially thome--i love the guy and hope he makes it to the hall, but i did not like the trade (for rowand) and it put the WS in "wait for the 3 run HR" mode, which they were in from 2001-2004 with mags, c lee, and the rest...
still, it's early and one week does not make a season...i still have hope

Guys,
Don't forget how difficult it is to move contracts like these. I too love Paul Konerko and sat in the second row in the left field for game 2 of the World Series, but you have to draw the line somewhere. Paulie is done. Now it is going to be very hard to move his contract and the remainder. You would think that the White Sox could pick up some since Fields isn't making much but that would help the team. At this point Fields is probably a better hitter and definately runs better. Might not be as good at 'picking' it but could get better as the season progresses. I for one like Ozzie. I think he is a solid manager and I am not sure who you could bring in to do a better job, but I don't like when he acts like an asshat.

I always liked Ozzie...and I think he's right, even though I don't like the Sox much (being a Tigers | |
