Now that we moved on past the most unprofessional collection of morons called the Wizards, it's time for the playoffs to truly begin.

The big, bad, Celtics are a whole different team and the Cavaliers have to bring their A game for the entire series and it still is going to be tough.  They can only blame themselves for playing Boston this early in the playoffs.  There were so many games this season that they should have won and could have easily been a three seed.

All that being said, here's my elementary analysis of the series.  Keep in mind that the Cavs tend to mix up their lineup and I realize it changes frequently.

  • Point Guard:  Rajon Rando vs. Delonte West:  West playing well in the playoffs and is doing what the Cavs brought him in to do.  His 3-pt shooting has been great and that will need to continue.  He will come out strong and will want to prove to Boston that they never should have let him go.  That being said, Rondo is a solid player and is also playing well in the playoffs averaging 12 pts and 7 assists.  He is a solid support to the Big Three, but doesn't shoot from outside.  Edge: EVEN
  • Shooting Guard:  Ray Allen vs. Daniel Gibson:  Boobie is a solid player and is shooting the ball well from outside in the playoffs.  But Ray Allen is Ray Allen and is going to get some open shots.  If he hits them, he will be the difference maker in the series.  Edge:  CELTICS
  • Center:  Kendrick Perkins vs. Zydrunas Ilgauskas:  Perkins is a big body and filling a big man role while the Big Three do their thing.  Ilgauskas brings great experience, can shoot from outside, and always comes up big in at least two games during a series.  Edge: CAVALIERS
  • Small Forward:  Paul Pierce vs. LeBron James:  Pierce is a top tier player and will be a large piece to the puzzle for the Celtics run.  However, James is a premiere player and makes everyone around him better.  Look for some hard fouls on James, but Boston doesn't need that desperation tactic that Washington took.  Edge: CAVALIERS
  • Power Forward: Kevin Garnett vs. Ben Wallace:  What I said about LeBron, apply to Garnett.  THis guy is hungry and is the cornerstone to this year's Celtics.  It's hard to say who Mike Brown will start in this spot, but the Cavs are going to need to pester KG.  Varejao really annoys Garnett and they have a track record when he was with the TimberwolvesEdge: CELTICS
  • Coaching: Doc Rivers vs. Mike Brown:  Mike Brown still hasn't grasped what to do with his lineups since the trade and I'll never understand how/why the team comes out flat in the games they do (see game 3 and 5 of the Wizard series).  Rivers is like a Joe Torre or Terry Francona.  Despite being given an unfair amount of talent, he still needs to coach to make them successful.  66 wins is impressive.  Edge: CELTICS
  • BENCH: The Cavs still don't have a true starting lineup that fits the traditional mold.  In fact, Wally Szczerbiak will probably start.  But they have a solid bench if Mike Brown uses them correctly.  I like the big men for the Cavs and think this can be an advantage to keep Garnett at bay.  Anderson Varejao and Joe Smith should get the majority of the minutes.  Gibson, Sasha Pavlovic, and Damon Jones are always a deep threat. The Celtics bench is moderate at best.  Cassell and Posey provide something, but there is not much need with the Big Three. Edge: CAVALIERS

For the Cavs to win: No letdown games where they don't show up.  Mike Brown needs to rotate the lineup appropriately.  The power forwards need to slow Garnett down.  Ray Allen needs to be cold. Oh, and they need some triple doubles from LeBron!

For the Celtics to win:  Stop LeBron and force the supporting cast to make shots.  If they win every game in Boston, they'll be fine.  The Cavs are lousy on the road lately.

PREDICTION:  Cavaliers in 7 games.  Cavs will slow the Celtics down and win some close games.

I think much of your analysis is accurate, although I think there are some other big time keys for the Cavs. Boston is a perimeter oriented team, with KG and a couple of bruisers. If you get KG in foul trouble, either through effective schemes (getting him out on top with LeBron, or in the post defending Illgauskas)  you can make the C's a pretty one-dimensional team. For the Cavs, they need to get some production from people other than James, both inside and out. If Szczerbiak plays as he did in Game 6, this will be a very tough team for even a team the caliber of the Celtics to beat. If he doesn't, they can focus on LeBron and put it to rest early.

Rondo Vs. West a Push?? No way!

How abot this:

Guards: Rondo and Allen vs Boobie and West

EDGE Celtics

Forwards: Pierce and KG vs James and Wallace

Edge Celtics

center: Perkins and Powe vs Big Z

Edge Push

Bench Powe, cassell, Posey, Davis are all good. Cleveland bench is good too.

Edge Push

Celtics will be playing more half court basketball this round. This will help them. James helps Cleveland take 1 or 2 games, but Celtics take this in 5 maybe 6.

I disagree with the assessment that our bench is average.

Rondo is definately young, sometimes inconsistent, but is almost turning into one of the best defensive pt guards in the league.

Had great defense against Nash and Paul and the likes this year.

brownschamps

some of your points are well put but there are some that are, in no disrepect, way, way way off, but hey its your opinion

first off the point guards are not push, Rajon Rondo in only his second year has far supassed Delonte West rondo is a better play maker, passer, rebounder, defender, and scorer, the only edge west has is hes a better out side shooter... west played for us for the past 3 years and hes was solid role player but rondo in the next 2 years will be an elite point guard, west will still be a role player (thats why the Celts traded west and kept rondo)

next up the bench, ill take the celts bench, 7 days a week and twice on sundays, Leon Powe and Big baby Glen Davis solid down low players, id take either one over anderson varajo or Joe Smith, do not sleep on leon POWE,  then we come to James Posey, by far and away one of the best if not the best 6th man in the league, regardless if he has not won the award, he plays very solid defense and is a good scorer and a clutch out side shooter, the cavs have no one even close to james posey coming off the bench, same thing with Sam Cassell, hasnt been consistent since he came to the celts, but has had some very good games and has that veteran presence and big shot making ability, ill take him over boobie gibson (1 dimensional player, 3 pointers all day from him and no degense),

the Celtics bench is far and away superior to the Cavs and i feel will be the difference in this series, my prediction celtics in 6, bring on the Pistons

good luck Cavs fans, hope its an all time classic series

the Celtics bench is far and away superior to the Cavs

I have to disagree with this.

So far in the playoffs (per game stats):

Celtics Bench:  25.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists

Cavs Bench:  28.4 points, 16.7 rebounds, 6.3 assists

Not to mention that Sam Cassell and PJ Brown are the 3rd and 4th oldest guys in the NBA.  Not saying they can't still play  - they can.  But if this series goes 7 games, I'd rather have the younger guys.  Cassel over Gibson?  You can't be serious.

At any rate, I agree with you about hoping its an all time classic.  I look for this series to be very entertaining.

Go Cavs.

The Indians and Cavs just can't win a game on the same day, can they?

Even though our team lost, that was one exciting game. Hopefully the next one goes our way. Any hope for this Series is to win one on the road before returning to Cleveland, in my opinion.

LeBron was shooting TERRIBLE tonight. Anyone else get really irritated when he kept taking those three point shots?

1 down 3 to go. Brownschamp get that Celtic avatar ready my friend.

What is more disturbing? Holding Pierce and Allen to 4 points and losing? Or LeBron shooting 2-18? I am no fool, I know King James will bounce back. I also know that Pierce and Allen will score more than 4 points on Thursday.

This series is setting up to be a great one. Still say Celtics in 5. Can't see the Cavs getting closed out in Cleveland.

hey franklincounty

"Cassel over Gibson?  You can't be serious."

I was serious and so was Sam Cassell as he dropped 13 points on the cavs, 10 in the 4th quarter, hitting clutch 3's and free throws, yeah boobie gibson hit a 3 in the 4th to tie it, but ill take sam 7 days a week and twice on sunday hitti
