Ryan Clark wanted to chang his number from 25 to 21 to honor his friend and former teammate, sean taylor. The nfl gave probably the dumbest explaination I've ever heard saying "Once you have a number for so long you have to pay to change it" well clark was willing to but they still b!tched him off. Another reason why some of those executives are a bunch of shin-tzu puppies. He will wear it in practice though. The nfl spends time with those stupid issues like td dances, wear the cheerleaders warm up, players hair-length, and stupid rules about jersey changes instead of issues like Michael Vick, hgh/steriods, off the field stuff, and funds for former players.

I think thats crazy if the numbers open and he wants to repects a friend the (nfl) shouldn't say a word he shouldn't have to ask. Its like when Ben wanted to put P4J on his cleats or when Jon Kitna wanted to wear a hat saying something about Jesus. The NFL should worry more about the crime rate and help the younger players deal with a the money thats being thrown at them so they can keep it and retire wealthy. Instead they want to be in peoples business over stupid stuff. Maybe the leagues higher ups should be made up of only guys who played in the NFL like Steve Young, Brett Farve, Merrill Hoge etc aleast they would have a clue what the players need and deserve.

I agree. The league should honor and cherish players wanting to switch numbers in honor of other players. They should be more worried about the crime rate and off-season mishaps by players. It should be up to the team orgzanization if they should allow a player to switch numbers. No big deal about this though

total BS, they let Alan Faneca switch to 66 once Jim Sweeny left. If Ryan Clark wants to honor Sean Taylor, he should be allowed to show his allegiance.

Sounds like the NFL Nazis are on patrol again, I thought they had more important things to do like deal with Matt Walsh, Marvin Harrison, Cedric Benson, and Pacman Jones.

I wonder if enough people complain to the league about it, or enough players on the team say something about, if the league will change their minds.

All of the posts on here are spot on here about the NFL being too up tight about this kind gesture.  If enough red-blooded football fans say something about it.  Roger Goodel and his boys should come to their senses.  Maybe in the form of an ESPN special or a petition to league headquarters.

Those guys in the "no fun league" need to stop being so oblivious about the personal side of football.  LET Ryan Clark WEAR #21 FOR GOD'S SAKE.  IT REALLY ISN'T A BIG DEAL.

personally i've no problem with it. i believe CLARK should concentrate on getting his weight and strength back instead of whining about a # change. let's not forget when him and SMITH  went down with injuries so did our "D"

Jwmose33,

I dont think there is any Whining going on here .. Clark just wants to honor a friend..  I wonder what the fine is for him wearing the #21?  $500?  - I'd let him wear it - pay the fine and keep petitioning the NFL for the permanent number change..  It's absolutely absurd that the NFL cares if he switches his number..

By the Way - Clark has been concentrating on his off season training and should be ready to go - I believe  he participated this past weekend in mini camp.

enjoy,

bb
