I know we don't have any big names coming in, but we have a couple of promising redshirt freshmen who will play this year and contribute. Coach K also is trying his best to fill holes at LB, TE and DB with JUCO players. QB looks good with Matt Simms having a redshirt year behind him and the Stoudt kid coming in to provide competition for next year. I stll think anything over .500 is as good as we'll see next year. Just as a lot of people said Ron Cooper deserved a fourth year so he could coach his own seniors, I think it will be 3-4 years before we se real sustained success. I think the team will get a little better this year and next year each. 2010 is when we NEED to make a move to get back int the national picture. I want to have patience and give this time to work out. I still haven't seen anything Tom Jurich has done not work out if given a chance. Pitino hasn't won a championship yet and no one is complaining(including me cause I can see it coming). Jurich hired this guy the same way he hired John L. and Petrino and that worked out pretty well. Look at the baseball team's success. I went to UL in the late 70's and I don't even recognize the athletic facilities for the students and athletes. I play tennis at the Bass-Ruud Center a couple of times a year and I can see first hand that Jurich is committed to making UL a place that can compete at any level in any sport. How long did he take hiring Walz to coach the women and how are they doing. Coach K walked into a hornets nest and with player dismissals and defections, it's going to take a while to get the talent level back up. We don't have a Michael Bush/Briam Brohm local players waiting to step in, so we will have to build up slowly. We don't have Notre Dame's rep(how their season go last year) to fall back on for recruiting. Let's just see if we can improve on defense. I'll be happy if we can win some games 21-14.
