Wide Receiver: With Plax, Amani Toomer and Steve Smith at locks that leaves Sinorice Moss, Mario Manningham, David Tyree, Dominick Hixon and Michael Jennings battling for probably 3 positions depending on whether R.W. McQuarters is still around to field punts. I think Moss, Manningham and Tyree make the team with Hixon and Jennings on the practice squad or out of a job.
Offensive Line: hopefully one of the undrafted free agents sticks or Adam Koets is improved as the depth at tackle is suspect with only Guy Whimper with any game experience. Inside Grey Ruegamer can play any of the three positions.
DE: Dave Tollefson or Robert Henderson although Henderson probably goes to the practice squad to develop. Tollefson still may get cut with Kiwi as the 3rd down rush specialist along with Tuck.
DT: With only three on the roster Robbins, Alford and Cofield, the Giants need one veteran or UFA to fill a hole for 2 downs with Tuck and Kiwi rushing on 3rd down.
LB: who will start Wilkinson or Clark or Brian Kehl? Does Zak DeOssie make the team because he can long snap?
CB: with Aaron Ross, Corey Webster and Sam Madison locks, the leaves Terrell Thomas, RW and Kevin Dockery competing for the final 2 spots. I bet RW is the odd man out as Kevin Dockery did a great job covering Wes Welker in the slot and we need a small quick CB. RW does give Tom Coughlin comfort in fielding punts safely despite Green Bay adventure.
LB: Wilkinson starts with Clark. Kehl as a backup, Goff either gets cut or goes to the practice squad. Zak DeOssie is a back-up and makes the team as a long snapper. Don't be surprised to see a lot of Chase Blackburn.
There was one guy we signed undrafted who was playiing safety who looks like he can hit. There's even some you tube coverage of a particularly hard hit he had that laid out a receiver for a while on the turf. One of the harder hits I've sen in a while. Other than that, I have no insight on any other undrafted rookies.
For Safety there is also Craig Dahl but he got injured and was in IR last year he was a undrafted free agent, he started 1 game with Michael Johnson for injured Butler and Wilson, and intercepted the ball i think once maybe twice.
i dont have much insight besides them pickin up a Army punter Owen Tolson, thats all i know, he could get groomed by Feagles and when Feagles retires he could be the man at punter
I agree with u on ur position battles but i think they keep all CBs, they need a good 5-6 CBs for depth and/or injuries. I think Giants keep 5-6 WRs 2 for depth and injuries. They will keep all 8 of their LBs they need them all for special teams, and depth, and almost all are young. DE it all depends on if Michael Strahan retires or not, they have Osi, tuck, and could move kiwi back if he retires, then theres henderson, and Tollefson for depth if he retires or not or could be used for spags swappings.
How come the Giants website only says they signed 6 UFAs Glenn Bujnoch, Andrew Bain, Carnell Stewart and Dylan Thiry on the offensive line and two DTs Josh Muse and Ogmedi Nwagbuo? The others I read about also but they have not announced their signing must have something to do with the roster limits. D.J. Hall would be a good practice squad addition, he can play.
I heard that the lists that are out were not released by the Giants, but were found out through the colleges. The list that is out is incomplete, and im sure there will be more rookie free agents in camp.
I have heard some good things about Nehemiah Warrick, a SS out of Michigan State. In his first season at Michigan State (11 games) he had 45 tackles and broke up three passes. During his senior campaign he had 61 tackles and three pass breakups in 12 games. He missed one game his junior year due to a minor knee and leg injury, but besides that he has always been injury free (a good thing for our constantly injury riddled Giants).
He was pissed that he was not drafted and seems to have a chip on his shoulder that will push him to succeed in this league.
I got this info off MVN and they had a link to this video on youtube showcasing Warrick's hitting potential.
Great Post Jesse D.... Not so sure about James Butler sticking with the squad. I actually think he may be one of the early cuts along with R.W. Mc"Q". With the exception of Pierce in the middle LB spot, our WIL and SAM are really wide open contests. I feel Strahan will retire and the "KIWI" experiment will be scrapped. Kiwi will move up front again with Osi and Tuck. The competition for starting linebacking roles will be the most heavily contested on the team. The starting roles in the secondary will be the next most hotly contested grouping for starting positions and roster spots. WR's follow a close 3rd. My guess is that the front office has a soft spot for Sinorice Moss and will give him one more year, however if he gets nicked up in the pre-season again.....he's history.
