LSU is playing as good, if not better, than any team in the nation. They have won 7 games in a row, including a victory over in-state, national powerhouse rival Tulane and a 3 game sweep over highly ranked South Carolina. Today, they won game 1 of a doubleheader at 16th ranked Kentucky, where Kentucky was 25-2 before this weekend. In the top of the 8th, they are winning 12-5. I wont say they're back to the glory days yet, but they are well on their way with the #1 ranked recruiting class in 2007.
I had to say no. Ole Miss recently won nine in a row and beat LSU 2/3 and swept top 10 Vandy. They quickly reverted to form and fell out of the top 25. Five national titles in 17 years. Not to shabby. I would settle for one trip to Omaha. I have never seen such a streaky season as this year in the SEC.
I said "looking good." Of course it is too early to tell if anything like those days could be again, but LSU is certainly playing with a lot of talent and confidence. I think Manieri has the team going in the right direction. It's certainly a pleasure being an LSU alum and fan now.
Way to go, Skip. Hope Alleva keeps up the great work.
I wouldn't get too crazy just yet, but a 9 game winning streak and #22 ranking finally gives us something to smile about. I would like to see more of Jared Mitchell and Matt Clark, and where the hell is Chad Jones??? Other than that though I think Coach M is doing a fine job!!!
LSU is playing well right now...But the glory days? NOt even close.
That would be like me asking if UK basketball were back to the glory days if we finally made it into the top 25 at some point next season!
LSU still isn't nearly as talented as the teams at the top this year (Georgia, UNC, MIami, FSU, Rice, etc...) and this was seen in Baton Rouge. LSU has been smokin hot since...Getting swept at home by Georgia.
They are playing great baseball right now, but the glory days?? C'mon...Not even close.
Lsu is playing some good ball now, but not better than everyone else. In my opinion they are nowhere near UM, ASU, UNC, and FSU. By the way, the reason why they have the #1 recruiting class in the nation, is because they have the highest attendance. Other than some off the top of my head (LSU, TX, FSU, MSU, ARK), I cant really think of any others that average over 5,000 people per game.
1. They would have to come back after all of this work and at least win the West. Ole Miss is on their way down, but Alabama is just as hot as LSU in the SEC right now. That tie game that LSU has on their record may play a huge part come SEC tourney time and might mean the difference between a 2 seed or a 5-8 seed.
2. They have to win a game in Hoover. It has been 3 years since LSU won a game in Hoover. The Tigers got swept out in Smoke's final two seasons and didnt make it to the Met, or Regions Park for those keeping score at home, last season. No one on this team has tasted SEC tourney victory. That would be a huge step for them in the right direction, and once again it falls on that tie game as to whether or not their in good position for a win on Wednesday.
Tigers are looking real good right now, they should win the West the way they are playing right now. Tigers are getting hot at the right time and with the two worst SEC teams I would not be surprised if LSU has a 14 game winning steak going into the post season. We are not back to the glory days yet but in a year or two if we keep on laying like this we'll be near it. It's going to be hard to get that good again.
ng11787,
LSU won an opening round game against Alabama in the 2006 SEC tournament 4-3. That was in Smoke's final season as coach. Two years ago. We beat Alabama... shouldn't you know that? And there are quite a few players on this team that were on that one.
But yeah.... LSU and Alabama are both playing pretty well right now. Alabama and Ole Miss lost today so now LSU's lead in the west is 1 1/2 games with 4 remaining.
And I have tremendous respect for USC. Hopefully, one day we can catch up with them. But, this thread is not about USC, so please take your trash talk somewhere else.
i'd give them some time, don't jump to any conclusions yet. i'd see how they finish out the season and after next year you'll have a good idea if this program is what it once was.
