Tulsa International was one of the scariest touch and goes I ever did, in over 12,000 hours of flying.  We are all sitting in the back, bored out of our skulls (touch and goes are only fun for the pilots).  The copilot drops the jet in from about 30 feet.  We thought we'd crashed.  The jet bounced so high that they just threw the throttles up and went around from there!

Yeah, the TF-33s on the E-3 are 1960's technology.  Definitely not the quietest.  The Air Force funded new engines back in the 1990's but still hasn't put them on.  Don't know that they ever will now.  Of course, the new engines would be safer and save millions on fuel costs but hey, what's a few million among friends!

I posted the same pic on another board I frequent and one guy said the reason the new engines weren't being used was because they were bigger and interfered with the radar.  I dunno.

Naw, we couldn't see directly under the jet anyway.

There were several reasons.  Some money reasons, some engineering reasons. .

Anyway, good picture!

we get a B17 and 25 flying in here on occasion and I'll get some pics of those guys one of these days..

now there are sounds that there is absolutely no mistake about.

most of the pics I've used for an avi have been my pics. a little SE Colorado, a little NE New Mexico and whatever strikes my fancy.......
