Wheat I am sure you probably remember Jaime Melendez OL from Lawton who played for Switz in the 70's. Apparently he ate a bunch of Taco's because he weighed 265 and opened up holes like a road graders.
Yes money plays a big part in high school athletics , look at Bishop Kelley's baseball teams , at one time they had 4 or 5 kids whose dad's played in the major leagues. Money talks and BS walks.
Soonershel I am not saying you are racist , but my fiance was born in Mexico and when she enters a room heads turn. She would not hesitate to put a knot on anyone's head who dogged her nationality. Again I am not saying you are racist , but there are many good Mexican athletes , a lot of them have never had a chance to showcase their skills!!
Peace to all ~~~ BOOMER SOONER~~~

I've been gone, so it took awhile to read through this thread. But I find it interesting, so I'll add my 2 cents.
I think the love for the game (football) is passed down from father to son. And as a boy grows up, he has friends playing, so it's natural for him to take an interest. In the hispanic community, soccer is the main sport of interest, so a "Mexican" father is more likely to pass that interest on to his son, and the kids in the neighborhood are also more likely to be playing soccer.
It does not matter what sport we're talking about. If it's not in your blood, and the desire is not there, you will not be playing at any major university, regardless of your size or speed. (or nationality)

Thanks SoonerAlum, and thanks for the gallant attempt at showing Mrsooner his faulty thinking.
I don't know if his misguided statements are the result of racism or simply stupidity. But because of his staunch denial of racism, I will give him the benefit, and attribute it to the latter.

Then I will take the high road and follow your lead.
Stupidity it is!

you really got to know someone before you start with that crap. just because i don't agree with some people on here doesn't make me a racist. that could of and should of been left out.
Good point, but I think I know what others on this message board are thinking when they read things like "Mexicans and Asians don't grow big enough". ..........From one football fan to another...that sounds racist, period.
If you say you're just misunderstood, I can accept that. But with | |
