I feel more sorry for the guy they cut than for Steeler Nation. He's missing out on his chance, but it was probably a long shot to see this guy returning kicks. I thought that was what Mwelde Moore was for. But one way or another it would be nice to find a guy on the roster to handle kicks, and I don't mean an unproven rookie or a washed up free agent... Yeah I'm looking at you Willie Reid.

Well we signed another guy.
Rookie signs
The Steelers signed another rookie wide receiver to take the spot of Purdue's Doren Bryant, who was released Friday after failing his physical Thursday.
Kevin Marion (5-10, 168) caught 44 passes for 485 yards and one touchdown in his college career at Wake Forest, including 18 for 192 yards as a senior in 2007. He was not drafted last weekend.

For reals....
During last year's offseason, I spent alot of time on these forums talking up Willie Reid-- he had Deion Sanders-like numbers in college returning kicks and even had a 1000+ yard season from just kick returns alone!
Once the preseason started, a lot of folks on here were bashing him left and right, and I kept telling them to just wait and give him a chance....well, after five weeks of preseason play, he looked absolutely awful back there, and I had not an inch left to stand on.
Yeah, I'd love to see Reid get the kick return duties under control, but if not, the Steelers need to address our problem of turning the other teams' punts into a forty yard forward pass into our red zone. I leave hand-grip prints on my football chair everytime our kick-return team takes the field.

yeah steel platoon, i did the same thing. I spent all last offseason hyping up Willie Reid coming into last season. a friend of mine is a huge FSU fan and i always end up watching FSU games and loved willie reid in college. I was so excited when we drafted him.....until last year... he was so bad.
we also got that Jeremy Bloom kid from colorado who is that skiier from the olympics. he was cut by the Eagles but i think we resigned him. so it looks like for punt returns it will be , bloom, reid, moore, and probably a DB like gay back there too. But either way, our special teams are a joke, our coverage is a joke, and returns are a joke. i almost wish that we would just have touch backs and fair catches

Ehawk,
Bloom wont make the first cut - The Eagles had nobody in their return game - just like us - and this kid could not stick...
enjoy,

yeah i am not a big fan of bloom, but hey who knows, he was decent in college and maybe needed a year under his belt to get his feet wet. as far as i am concerned, we can bring in 18 punt returners and then pick the best.

What we honestly need is a powerful leg on kickoffs to kick the ball deep in the endzone. We also need Sepulveda to return to his college form and boom kicks over 50 yds on a consistent basis. We cannot have returners catching it and running for scores or deep in our territory. I think during this mini camps and the beginning of training camp, we need to really work on our kickoff and punt teams.

Hang in the guys, we have some solid options at the return position, Mewelde Moore being the strongest and now then we have Rashard that will make them feel better about putting Moore out there returning balls. I was a Willie Reid fan since he was drafted but he's on the thinnest ice he's ever seen and still never materialized as a returne guy which is why they drafted him in my eyes. They have several other options to look at over the next few month's but Moore is the most proven at this point and it wil take a lot for any rookie's to step in for that duty.

There is more to this story that no one is telling. Even the Steeler reporters don't know what happened. They said a failed physical could have been anything from an injury no one knew about to a failed drug test. Does anyone know if he signed with another team?

I said the same thing smcndfan. I think that it could've been an injury or a failed drug test and the Steelers wanted no part of it. I don't see anything that shows him being signed by another team.

Here's what I found about Dorien Bryant:
"It has been reported that due to personality issues and for not showing up to mini-camp, Dorien has been released from the Pittsburgh Steelers"
It sounds like he was probably not taking authority very well.
