In case any Giants fans were interested, Joe Crede is leading the AL with 7 home runs and has 22 RBIs so far. I thought this was interesting to discover considering how many fans (myself included) thought that Crede was definitely not worth trading for because he wasn't any better than Pedro. Apparently he took all the trade talk to heart and is tearing it up.

And I think Casey Kotchman has something like a .332 average right now which is well above his lifetime average as well. What a ironic game baseball is...

it isn't that Crede wouldn't have been a good fit it is that only has one more year left on his contract and a history of back problems.  I hope he keeps it up but the White Sox at the time wanted someone like Sanchez and Fred Lewis

That is just too high of a price to pay for what could be a one year rent.

my 2 cents

Here's the rub on Crede.  His doing really well means that Josh Fields, who is an even better player/prospect may actually be available as he is playing in AAA right now.

We don't need to trade for Joe Crede we are not going to try and win now we are looking toward the future.  The thing with Josh Fields is he looks like a guy with alot of power but he strikes out an awful lot.  Right now in the minors he is striking out over 30% of his at bats and he is 25 so we might as well look to within or look elsewhere as we had a player like this his name was Pedro Feliz.

If I recall correctly, Ken Williams, the GM of the White Sox was demanding too much from the Giants for Crede.  In my mind, that was pretty arrogant since they have Fields waiting in the wings.  Given that the Giants are probably 4+ years away from building a team truly talented enough to contend, mortgaging the future for a "better than average" rent-a-player is plain stupid.  Now with that said, if the Giants should find themselves in the middle of a dvision title run by the July 31 deadline (which I doubt they will be), a rent-a-player might make sense if the price is right.  For now, the Giant don't need to do anything other than keep their pitchers healthy and building confidence.

Would have to agree with CentralCal about the current state of the team.  That's sort of how we got here in the first place, mortgaging our future (Nathan, Liriano, Bonser) for stupid Pierzynski to try and win right away.  Right now we need to groom these young pitchers and develop impact players in the farm system, which we haven't done in many years.
