Let me say first that my intent in this post is not to further the ridiculous conspiracy talk with the refs helping the Penguins.  At the end of the game yesterday Malkin made a completely unnecessary and very dangerous play taking out Paul Mara's knees from behind with his skate.  Im not calling Malkin a dirty player cause that can happen to anyone but my question is this ... Had Mara been hurt on the play Malkin probably would have been suspended like the Graves slash that broke Lemiux's hand in 1992, which was a much more innocent play with clearly no intent to injure which seemed apparent on the Malkin play.  Shouldn't intent to injure be more important than the result?   And before I get ambushed by people saying i just want Malkin out of the series, I wouldn't suspend him now but for the first couple games of next season.  What do you guys think?

Suspended the first couple games of next season isn't an option.  If the authorities that be determine it too be an act suspendable, they have to act immediately, and back up their findings.  If the act was minor enough to put off punishment, then its not suspension worthy.

Unfortunately its not news if no one gets injured.  And if its not news, there's no action required.  Any action in this case will be public cause outcry.  So I don't think there will/should be any suspension.

I know your correct about the susp policy I was just trying to give an ideal albeit impossible scenario. My main point was that I think the nhl is wrong in only looking at the result instead of looking at intent as well.
