Do you think the moving of the final table action to November will effect the outcome?  These players are being given some time to research their opponents and plan more for this event.  Will the players have to wait to recieve any payouts?  Will this make for a more exciting final table?  Just want to hear some thoughts on this.

It seems that many pros think it is a good idea.  However, could there be more of a cooler to a hot player than making him wait 17 weeks to play the final table?  It is being done strictly for the money because the WSOP is a franchise, plain and simple.  Check out Daniel Negraneau's blog on Card Player about it.  If I was a pro who had appeared in tournaments on TV, and wrote books I would hate this move.  It gives people too much time to study your tendencies.

It may make for better television, and they certainly have the opportunity to build up to it over the 5 month gap, but from a player's perspective I would disagree.  On the surface, nothing changes other than the time between making the table and playing it out.  But if you're a relative unknown riding an unimaginable hot-streak (Moneymaker, Gold, Yang, etc.), I think it takes away an advantage you have.  Some players will attest to feeling on top of their game for periods of time, but never consistently.  A break such as this will more than likely find a few of them 'off' that peak.  And I also don't know that it would be fair to them to give their more-seasoned opponents additional time to analyze their play (they will have access not only to the broadcast portion of the main event prior to the final table, but also any other events that the players will probably participate in during the break.).  Isn't one of the keys to winning tournament poker the ability to make adjustments on relatively short notice?

As for the payouts, the only amount that could be paid out would be for 9th place, after which the 1st person eliminated would basically get nothing.

By the way, I'm pretty sure the WSOP would gladly take a 5 month 'float' on about $20-$30m (unless they add it to the pot)!!

I think its bs, play the tournament in succession like its always been. Like Ungar said, play your rush.

The pros like it because:

A: If you are a true professional, it doesn't matter if the other players get coached.  You're supposed to be able to play against the best, so what does it matter?

B: They will get more sponsorships this way.

So for the pros, it's easily a better recipe for more money.  That's why most are for it.

As a poker player for the last 2 1/2 years playing online, I hate this move!  I even qualified for the Main Event through partypoker on a freeroll before they kicked off American players.  It makes no sense to have to wait over three months to finish the tournament.  Poker is about who is hot now, not in three months.  Big thumbs down to the WSOP for doing this.

An odd decision.  Never heard of such a thing being done in a tournament.  Don't see the point.  They are talking like it's being done for TV but why couldn't they air it 5 hours after it finishes without waiting several months?

It appears to be good for TV but as a player, there is no way I would like it.  If it were me at the final table I would feel like it would completely mess up any continuity I had going.  I also agree that it gives players a chance to research each other.  If they would have done this all along would someone like Moneymaker have still won?  I dont think so.

So what if everyone has time to research each others tendencys. It gives everyone the same advantage/disadvantage.

It sucks for two reasons. The final table has to wait longer for their payday, and fans have to wait longer to watch it. Other than that, i see no negatives. And like someone else said, they can milk this for all its worth that entire 17 weeks.
