Beleive it or not, I don't rejoice when bad things happen to the Red Sox.

I like it if they are not winning and of course I really love it if the Yankees are winning and ahead of them, but generally respect the fact that they are a good team and a fairly well run organization.

It seems though that a lot of RSN'ers rejoice in Yankees losses, injuries, bad contracts, anything miserable. The worse the Yankees news, the happier a lot of Sox fans seem to be.

My question - doesn't it take a lot of the fun out of the season, if there is not a 2nd competative part of the rivalry?

I mean how much bad stuff happening to the Yankees is enough, if there is such a thing?

Some Sox fans seem to take more joy in bad things happening to the Yankees than good things happening to the Red Sox.

Fair or not?

Yes Jizmo, it does take a little fun out of it when the Yankees are not playing well and when the Red Sox are.  I mean as much as I dislike the heart attacks these two teams give me when they play each other it really is a good baseball match-up!

I find it funny how a lot of Yankees are hurt now though!  Not funny as in laughing haha funny, but just funny how they are all hurt right now at the same time, something fishy is going on!

Jizmo-

Sox fans have had to put up with a lot of crap from Yankee fans for many, many years before 2004. You guys always won, and we never did. While I do enjoy some competition, I like seeing the Yankees lose too. We just like being on top now, and are giving you a little taste of your medicine that you were giving us for years.

I'd have to say that you are probably in the minority based upon the Yankee fans on this board and the New Yorkers I know personally. They love seeing the Sox lose too.

As far as stuff like injuries go though, I don't take part in ribbing for that. It's not right.

I like the competition, I really do. I love seeing the Sox win when the race is tight. However, theres a special place in my heart for when the Yankees lose. I can't help it, I'm a Red Sox fan.

Yankees win 90+ games per year, so its not like we enjoy them losing as often as we would like them too.

I've been a serious Yankee fan since the early 70's and went to my first Yankees game in the 60's just wasn't old enough to know anything other than I rooted for them.

I have seen my share of crappy Yankee teams. It has not all been win ,win, win.

I understand it all to a degree, I just don't get off on other people's misfortune.

Sure I like winning and if it's against the Red Sox, even better, but when the 2 teams are not playing each other I don't go out of my way to see if the Red Sox are winning or losing, and really don't like to see any team - Red Sox or otherwise - go through bad times.

I will admit to some mild contempt however for teams that sponge off the teams that have to pay "luxury" tax, and share revenue, and then don't put a dime into putting a competative team on the feild. I don't have a lot of use for those owners or teams.

Ah well, to each his own, it just gets old some times when your team is really going through some bad times and people get off on it and enjoy it.

Some times I think - hey, if the whole team died in some type of catastrophe, people would actually come on the boards and make snide comments about it. I mean geez, we are all just human beings, and it is only sports for God's sake.

I answer this with a number....86.....86 years of misery.  When the Yanks have gone that long, while losing multiple opportunities on the final outs ripping out your heart, then having to go into work, school, bars or where have you to face Red Sox fans year after year and put up with what we did.

When that happens, you'll finally get what it was like being a Sox fan.  And that day when they finally get over the hurdle, if you have proudly stuck by your team for your entire life.  Burried parents and grandparents that never got to see it happen, but followed the team religiously as you do now.

When that day happens, you will then be able to say, I know how you feel.
