Serena started making excuses for the Qatar Open in Berlin, Germany soon after the Charleston, SC Tournament.  Serena said, "right now I'm looking ahead to Berlin.  I feel like I have some momentum as long as I'm healthy."

" As long as I'm healthy,"  that is Serena's typical statement before a tournament as part of her planned "Gamesmanship."

That is my opinion.

What is your opinion?

i am definitely not a Serena fan, but she is probably the best woman's best player when she is healthy and in shape. Having said that, from Serena's comments you would think she has never been beaten because someone played better. There's always some lingering health issue that keeps her from playing her best and causes her to lose. I've had three knee surgeries, none of which kept me off a tennis court for a full year. Serena is also one of those players whose grunts get louder as the match gets closer. I do think she uses gamesmanship at every opportunity which is unnecessary as I also think she is the most talented woman to play tennis, perhaps ever.

I am a Serena Williams (and Venus) fan and agree with a lot of what you guys have said.

Serena is probably one of the best players of all time, however, she has squandered her talent the last couple of years and that is truly a waste. If she had always been dedicated to tennis, I imagine she'd be up at 15 or 16 slams by now. Let's see if her new 'dedication' to tennis is for real. She definitely has the talent to make it back to #1 and win a couple more slams, but, she doesn't have much more time (she's 26 and that's approaching old in tennis years) with all of these youngsters coming up the ranks (Radwanska, Ivanovic, Jankovic, etc).

Typical behavior for them. Hopefully they will both be out of the picture soon and we can watch women's tennis again without becoming nauseous.

The "best women's player of all time"...  *LOL*

Grand Slam Women's Singles champions

(Wins) Player
1. (24) Margaret Smith Court
2. (22) Steffi Graf
3. (19) Helen Wills Moody
4. (18) Chris Evert
4. (18) Martina Navratilova
6. (12) Billie Jean King
7. (9) Maureen Connolly
7. (9) Monica Seles
9. (8) Serena Williams

Yeah... right.  Keep on dissin' Chrissy, Richard Williams... she's got more GS titles than your arrogant 'princesses' combined... and that was while battling extensively against Navratilova to get them.

Serena pulled out of her quarterfinal match of the Italian Open. Serena williams' back froze suddenly while she was warming up on a practice court for her match with French qualifier Alize Cornet.

Serena did not appear in much pain, carrying a large pocketbook over her left shoulder at a news conference "immediately" after her withdrawal.

Gamesmanship at its best.

Well, the gamesmanship has started for the 2008 French Open.  Serena started with suggesting that she will play, but she has problems with her back, and both legs.

I believe this is a set-up excuse for an injury time-out as needed, when needed.

Let the games begin!

May I add another virtue to Serena's Gamesmanship abilities, "WHINING."

What do you think?

Serena played today, Sunday, May 25, 2008, and all is the same, whine and make excuses, even in victory.  And ESPN wonders why they have poor ratings when they televise Serena's match.

I have never been a big fan of the Williams sisters. With that being said, I do root for them to do well though. They are American players, so that's the bottom line for me personally.

Watch tomorrow, Friday, May 30, 2008, Serena plays at 5:00 am EST, "live" on the Tennis Channel.  You will see gamesmanship, if the match gets tight.
