Speaking as a huge UK fan(of every sport, but particularly football, basketball and hockey), I will first state my opinion first off on this kid: I think he is the best pure runner our team has ever had. Last year, I read an article about Coach Brookes picking him up from the track team to run the ball a little, and kept an eye out for him during the season. Sure enough, during the Arkansas game, he exploded.

Having seen what he did last season, and with the increase in muscularity and presumably in the ability to cut, I think we will be seeing one of the best athletes, perhaps one of the best football players running the Blue here in a season or two.

So, thoughts on Locke? Opinions, etc?

Hate to double post, but I misspelled his name, it should be Derrick. My Mistake. D:

Very good possibility....if he can stay healthy.

I would love to see him as the 1st down back....

Move Dixon to 3rd down.

I would like to see him as the 1st down back in the 2nd and 4th quarters ... Smith as the 1st down back in the 1st and 3rd ... and Dixon 3rd down ... All 3 RB's are very talented and I'm more excited about this year than last year

I agree.  He's only going to get better.  I just hope he can withstand the abuse of being an "every down" type of back.  It's pretty tough to make it through the season without scars in the SEC.  Assuming that he bulks up a bit, and continues to learn the game, we should have an All-SEC back in Locke before too long.   The best part about him is that he got his chance to shine as a Frosh...that means we get to watch him develop for three more years.

From seeing him in spring pratices I can tell you for sure that Locke has bulked up quite a bit from last year. He looked great along with the rest of the backs, our running game should have no problems this year.

The O-line is vital this year in opening spaves for the run game.  Locke will be a great factor in the special temas also.  Hopefully, he's not injury proned.

I can only see this guy getting better, and being a major force on the ground for the cats in the SEC...the kid runs a 4.2 40!!! That is fast!!!

I love our backfield this year, especially at tailback. The first two backs Locke and Smith likely are the fastest duo we have ever had at UK and they give tow different looks. I am anxious to see whcih of the backs including Dixon can catch the ball out the backfield. That was soemthing that I feel was missing last year when Little was out and the threat of the dump off to our tailback is a vital tool in our passing game. I know Locke looked impressive last year, but don't forget about Smith. He was slated as the #3 back last year and he looked strong before he got hurt and he never looked the same last year. He was strong in the spring and I think this kid has the potential to be a great back as well. A one-two punch with DIxon as a strong 3rd down back could make our running game a formidable match if our O-line is up to the challenge. I am really excited about oour team this year. No offense to the other players or teams, but notice Brooks words when he talks about the team having the most depth and speed we have had under his tenure and this includes the last two bowl winning teams. I am pumped!!!!

Smith looked really good in the the spring pratices I went to. He's fast and follows his blocks well. We have a very full stable in the back field this year with the three that you've mentioned but dont forget about the "turtle" Moncell Allen, he's not a back thats going to burn most defense's with his speed but he's a punishing runner that can get those short yards and more at times. I think he still runs a 4.5 40 (not positive) but he's the kinda of back that brings the hit on the D opposed to running around them.
