This is from chicagobears.com and it is all about Ron Turner and how he did during his last stint as the Bears OC.   ( CLICK HERE IF YOU WANT TO READ IT )

Now i know that it is a long article, but in it it shows how well the Turner led Bears did in the mid 90s even though he had a different QB all of the time.

My question is.......

Is Lovie Smith holding him back?  Is Lovie sitting there saying "My @$$ My call?"

I know that if a HC isnt winning in a few years he is canned and the team is moving on after that.  Is he telling Ron to play it a little more consrvative than what Ron would want to?

I heard Brian Billick say that Ron Turner is one of the best OCs in the NFL.  That then led me personally to believe that Lovie is making Ron worse.  What happened between Riveria and Lovie?  We dont really know.  I do know that at the beginning of the season last year we were blitzing up til the Packers game and we wound up winning the game playing mostly Cover 2.  Well, after that, thats almost all we played.

Hee, I guess I'm the only one to vote on that poll. I don't know about Lovie holding him back. But I think that Turner is a decent OC. He gets a bum rap, but they did have a pretty good offense in '06. It was even a dynamic offense when Rex wasn't having one of his meltdown games. What happened in '07 was that the Bears became a pass first offense out of neccessity. Turner didn't trade Thomas Jones, draft Cedric Benson or let guys get too old in the offensive line. It's hard to do the things you like to do when you average 3 yards a carry. I think that a lot of things that they wanted to do with Hester and others on the offense went by the wayside because of the situations they were put in. And even then the quarterbacking was inconsistent. Grossman was awful the first two games, and Griese threw way too many interceptions. Long story short, the OC doesn't make the plays, players do, and there were way too few plays being made. I really think that if the running game gets fixed, and I think it's going to take a few games for it to kick in, it will make the offensive coordinator look a lot better.

To answer this question we need to know just who was calling the plays and setting up the "O" schemes last season. There were way too many times that we quit doing things that were working and changed to things that didn't work. Narrow minded tunnel vision on "O" looses games so whoever is running the "O" HAS to open things up and be able to adjust this year or we will be in for another long season.

If I'm not mistaken, Tom Walsh did pretty good during his first stint in the league too.  How did the second go around go?

I think Turners concepts are good, but I have issues with some of the playcalling.  From my recliner, I can even key on passing route combos based on personnel and formation.  I don't know if the predictability is based on the personnel or the OC.  There are times during the season when Turner gets in a good flow and the offense moves down the field, then he returns to the run once, run twice, throw short of the first down, punt mode.

Perhaps his offense will look better with a healthy offensive line and some skill players on the outside.

I don't think it is Lovie Smith so much as the talent Turner was dealing with last year.

If you don't have the talent to run projected plays (ie offensive line can't buy enough time for play action passes or gadget plays, RB can't run effectively, etc.) then what is the OC supposed to do?

He's gotta scale it back and come up with a plan B. My only complaint with Turner is that he didn't seem like he had a plan B ready.
