If the Pistons make an early exit out of the playoffs (not winning the championship), do you think they should fire Flip and go after recently fired Avery. Or if the Suns let go of D'Antoni should they go after one of those two. What do you think?

Flip will get fired after the playoff season. I don't see the Pistons winning the NBA championship. There is no inside game and Flip seems to lose his focus come playoff time. I would like to see the Pistons go after Avery. He is a very good coach and will light a fire under the players. As a former NBA point guard, he can help guide Stuckey to be a great player.

I don't think Dumars is requiring the championship for Flip to keep his job. If they get knocked by Philly or Orlando he should start packing immediately. If the lose to the Celtics in the conference final he might stay. A lot depends on whether or not the team is still listening to him. Avery Johnson had that problem with the Mavs and its why he got canned. If they make it to the Finals, win or lose, it is the only way he is guaranteed to be safe. Dumars fired the last two coaches for just making it to the conference finals.

If they don't win it all and Flip gets fired I don't think Dumars will lay all the blame on him. A couple of the starters may have to sit by the phone and expect a trade this summer.

I would rather have Sheryl Ford from the Detroit Shock coach the Pistons over D'antoni and Avery Johnson!!

I don't think that either Avery Johnson or Mark D'Antonio would be the answer for the Pistons should they fire Flip.  Johnson led the Mavericks to the best record in the NBA last year only to get knocked out in the 1st round by Golden State.  The Mavs just lost in the first round again this year.  Phoenix hasn't fared any better.  I do like our very own Bill Lambieer if Flip is fired.  I think he would do a good job motivating the players and they would respect him.  I'm not in the Pistons locker room but understand that the word is players don't really listen to Flip.  Flip seems to have a reserved demeaner.  Some players may not respond well to him.  I think he does have more coaching skills than many fans give him credit for.  The Pistons have a veteran team who knows what they need to do even though they don't always play like it!   We'll see what happens.

If the Pistons make the Championship or lose a tight series with the Celtics we will still have Flip.  If they lose to Orlando or get blown away by Boston there will be a new sheriff in town.  However it will not be Avery or D'Antoni--why go from one coach who can't win in the playoffs to another?

I think everyone who reads these boards knows my opinion on the matter:  Laimbeer!

Mike Antoni? Yeah right. Why would we bring in a coach who doesn't know a dang thing about defense?

Oh wait...we kinda did. But Mike Antoni would not be the answer at all. We give Flip crap about not going to the Finals but Antoni has never got to the Finals with the solid teams he has had.

If they fire Flip, the rumblings are the next head coach would be Micheal Curry.

I do not believe they would hire Avery or D'Antoni for niether one would be able to get these guys over the hump, you may need a fresh new coach that the players respect, and be willing to play for and I don't see AJ or MD being that man.

Logic -  as for Bill Laimbeer, I believe he would be a good head coach and should be given a chance also, but for some reason I don't see Joe Dumars looking to hire Laimbeer. Imagine having Laimbeer and Mahorn on the bench coaching in the NBA together, you might end up with a team more suited to play in the NFL then the NBA.

Avery and D'Antoni would be band aids at best.......I agree with you JY1960, I like the thought of Bill Lambieer here in Detroit, I read somewhere where Chris Weber says the players no longer listen to Flip in the team meetings and locker room, I don't know if there is any merit in that rumor...but all the same Big Bill Lambieer would bring that Bad Boy work ethic back to Motown just in time for our youth movement, Stucky, Affalo, Maxy, Amir, and Herman....
Go Pistons!!!!!!!!!

Flip has got to go!!!  When the series was tied 2-2 and philly was up at halftime in game 5  i was almost hoping they would lose the series just to see flip get fired. I also think B. laimbeer should be given a chance to be the coach of the Pistons or another team.

Flip has to go.  The players dont respect him and dont listen to him.
