Swish has got to go from the leadoff. His avg and OBP are diving, and when he does get on he can't steal. Leading off seems to be sapping his power. Also, after watching the Twins today, we lost that game among other reasons becuase they cover a hell of a lot more of the field on D than we do. A lot of gap room between Swish in CF and Dye in RF, and quite a bit in LCF as well.
I think Owens will be up by Friday, with Ramirez down.
Finally, what the HELL is Ozzie doing, runners on 1st and 2nd in the ninth, one out, Nathan pitching, down by one run, and he pinch hits Ozuna instead of Konerko ! Brutal !
I think the guy we may want to try to move is Dye. Swish could play right, Quentin left, and Owens and BA in center. We are overloaded in the OF. We need some speed and base stealing soon...we cannot try to outslug teams every day. Toronto has a good pitching staff, and I hope Owens is in the leadoff spot on Friday. Only question is, who sits ?

Are you stoned?
Nick Swisher is a great lead off man, he's batting around .220 but his OBP is STILL around .370, stealing bases is one of the most overrated stats in the game, Swish has played a good CF, and if you bring up Owens and trade Dye, you lose at least 30 homers and 50-60 RBI's, and your outfield arms go from above average to well below.
Now I read on Foxsports.com that the Sox may be interested in Ken Griffey jr., but that's just a well below credible rumor, I would be ok with trading Konerko, Thome, or Dye if they had a deal in place to get an outfield bat like Griffey, Jerry Owens is no more than a 4th outfielder in the big leagues.

Sea_fan8,
Amen. Please, can we stop the Jerry Owens love-fest????!!!! PLEASE??!!
Swisher's OBP so far in 2008 is .372, and last year it was .381.
Jerry Owens? Try .324 last year, and .324 for his career.
Nick Swisher has average speed, Owens has good speed. However, Owens' speed has served him well in walking back to the dugout after making outs. Swisher, meanwhile, in the middle of a slump, still gets on base.
Jerry Owens should N-E-V-E-R get significant playing time for a team that is trying to contend. Stop making me repeat it!!
Quentin, Swisher, Dye and even Anderson are all better options than Owens.

Swisher is not a "great" lead-off batter, but is the best we have. The problem is where to put him if he's not leading off. He would probably be very good anywhere else in the bating order.
Dye is having problems hitting with runners in scoring position, especially with the bases loaded (what is he this year, zero for God knows what with the bases loaded?) . This is a problem that goes back well into last year. But we should would miss his defense in right.
One possibility is a little flexibility in the DH position. Pinch hitting Ozuna instead of Konerko was a real boner, but I think Konerko could have been used to pinch hit for Thome in the 8th when the twinkies brought in their left hander. A possiblity. Thome doesn't hit the lefties. Could Swish DH against lefties occasionally?

Again guys, stop w/ the "they'll come around" crap. Swish is a .250 something career hitter. Why is he all of a sudden going to be batting in the .290's like a typical lead off guy? Hell he's not even getting walks now!!
And in regards to Owens, he batted in the .260's last season and batted in the upper .300's in September, not to mention he has speed. He was able to put together an above average offensive year in rookie terms so yes, he should receive significant playing time and yes, Swisher should be moved down the lineup.
We're not going to be in 1st place by the end of the week if this keeps up so you guys can give the "if it aint broke dont fix it" mentality up.

Nick Swisher has a career OBP of .362, and even with his slump his OBP is at .381.
It seems many of my fellow Sox fans are misguided as to what a lead-off hitter is, it's a man who GETS ON BASE.
Sure, 50+ stolen bases is sexy, but if the guy stealing them has a OBP of .320 and can't hit a homer to save his life, it's not a productive stat!
I would MUCH rather have Nick Swisher hitting for 25-30 homers and 70-80 RBI's than have Jerry Owens steal 50 bases and whack 5 homers and 40 RBI'.s

I think there is room for Jerry Owens on this team. He would be more useful then Anderson and Ramirez in my opinion. He could be put up to bunt, put in to steal, put out in the outfield for D etc.... I still think Swisher will have a good year. I would also keep Jermaine Dye. The Sox messed up by not moving Konerko this offseason, but hey they are still in first. I have a feeling it is going to be a rough weekend though. Hopefully we will take at least 2. I hope we sweep the Jays for cutting Thomas, but the way the offense is going right now i doubt it. We will return the favor to the Twins next Tuesday- Thursday. They aren't as good out of that dump. My prediction for 2010 has the twins in last place because they will be out of the Metrodome.

Seafan, the leadoff man is supposed to get into scoring positon since ahead of him are guys w/ high slugging percentages. Swisher getting on 1st and not advancing isnt helping, especially when players ahead of him are hitting into double plays.
Stealing bases isnt just "sexy", it's a must.

In a perfect world, the lead-off man is supposed to get on base, and then the #2 man is supposed to move him over, Nick Swisher has been doing his job, but Orlando Cabrera has started off cold, when you have 3 guys that could easily hit 40 homers behind you (not to mention Carlos Quentin and Joe Crede), all you need to do is get on base.
