After blanking the A's for 8 innings tonight, Joe Saunders is 5-0 for the month April.  As mentioned by CBSSports.com, he and Frank Tanana (1978) are the only Angels to accomplish this feat in the organization's 48-year history.  The only thing that kept him from going 6-0 was a no-decision in which he gave up only one earned run.

Saunders' strikeout numbers aren't that impressive (4.2 K/9), but with a WHIP of 0.95 he's managed to get through 8 innings in 4 of his 6 starts.  What is it that Saunders is bringing to the table this season that has lead to his quick start?  Is he just getting helped out by the defense or can we expect this type of performance all season?

Don't forget about Ervin Santana, his era is a little higher but he is 4-0 going on 5-0 tonight and a k/bb ratio of 3.25 k's to every 1 walk. These guys have been carrying us. Just imagine if we had Escobar and Lackey coming back. Once Lackey comeback we will have a solid staff. I also heard Dustin Mosely was being put in the pen and Nick Green I believe is going to take his start. The only reason why Ardenhart (sp) isn't going to take it is because it would be 3 days rest for him.

And you know I have to mention my boy Brandon Wood helping us win a game last night. I would love to see he up there everyday but it most likely wont happen with Aybar playing as good as he is and Kendrick is about to come back also.

Now add Santana to it. He pitched great tonight and now we have 2 games on the A's.  Once we get Lackey back we sill have one hell of a starting rotation.

Two 5-0 pitchers in Joe Saunders and Ervin Santana.  I can't wait for John Lackey to get back, and then Jered Weaver to start pitching like he's shown that he can.  This summer could be quite amazing if the pitchers and hitters live up to their potential.

Joe Saunders for president.

Ervin Santana now also has 5 wins...2 less wins that he had accomplished all of last season.

Best 1-2 punch in the AL right now.

Its good to see Ervin pitching the way he has so far. Not only has he been great at home, but it looks like he has his confidence back on the road.  This will be the best rotation in the majors when we get Lackey back.

Sam boy, although it may be somewhat sacreligious to disagree with you, even when Lackey returns I think the Diamondbacks will still have the best rotation in baseball.  With the recent addition of Max Scherzer, the starting five of Webb-Haren-Owings-Johnson-Scherzer may actually be the best we have seen since the Atlanta Braves of the mid-90's.

No doubt the Angels rotation will be one of the best in the game (in a few weeks), but the D-backs have something special in Arizona.

Joe Saunders : 6-0

Ervin Santana : 5-0, going for 6-0 tonight.

Just need other pitchers to start stepping up their game sometime soon.  And Hopefully John Lackey gets back sooner rather than later.
