Hey guys.
Regarding Sorgi, I just can't believe the Colts would have signed him long term if the didn't feel he could get the job done. Although he has had game experience, I don't think he's really been given an opportunity to show what he's capable of. I won't belabor the point, but with Peyton's durablility, what QB worth his salt wants to come here and hold a clipboard?
I think Joe, Dom, and Hart will be the 3 RB's kept. See ya KK.
Call me crazy, but it appears to me that Marvin is covering up for someone (his brother?) moreso than being involved himself. If that's the case, the Colts are fat, dumb, and happy at WR and you could see Garcon on the practice squad for a year. That would give him a year to acclimate from D-3 to the NFL without getting thrown to the wolves.
I share OTM's concern at LB. I don't want to give up anything defensively from last year. I'd rather have a healthy Rob Morris than an over-the-hill Roosevelt Colvin.
This is something Pat Kirwan had in an article on nfl.com:
In general, these are good rules of thumb for the final 53-man roster: three quarterbacks, six wide receivers, three running backs, four tight ends/fullbacks, nine offensive linemen, eight defensive linemen, six linebackers, 10 defensive backs, and four specialists (kickers/snapper/returners).
The Colts never keep 3 QB's, so that leaves a slot. They don't use a fullback in the traditional sense, plus they've got Hall and Santi who are comparable size to Lawton. Does that make him expendable and open another slot? Joe, Dom and Hart can all block, so they could go with 2 backs, 2 tights, or use Hall as an H-Back. Not to mention 3 wides with Marvin, Reggie and Gonzo, so there's no end to the looks the Colts O can give a defense. Oh, and matchup problems galore!
This is something I posted on another thread:
Goodell is thinking the 17th game could be an international game, which would be the source of new revenue. I'm ambivalent towards the 17th game, but I'm totally against doing away with a pre-season game. The pre-season is a time for the young guys, not the vets. It gives the youngs reps so they can learn more, the coaches can evaluate them better, and it gives a guy a chance to make a team. It's not supposed to be about generating revenue, it's about teams finding their best 53 for the season, which IS about generating revenue. IMO, the NFL should be looking for more ways to bring promising young talent into the league, not fewer. With the camp rosters cut to 80 instead of 86, there's already going to be 192 guys a year that won't even get a sniff. The Colts are proponents of a 5th pre-season game to better evaluate the kids, and give them a fair shot to make an impression. That's why the vets play so little, because they're a known factor. As a Colts fan, I would consider it a trajedy if a Jeff Saturday or a Gary Brackett had never been discovered.
