After training camp and preseason is through, who do you have winning the position battles? I'm working under the assumption that Dunta, Spencer, and Weary will not be ready on opening day. Everything else is fair game. Carry as many of one position as you like, as long as your roster doesn't exceed 53 players.
Try to make it as realistic as possible, but you can always throw in a wish-list move as well. For instance, I have them cutting Ahman Green, although I don't think it's realistically going to happen. It just seems to me like we're going to have to take up an extra roster spot carrying a 4th RB if both he and Chris Brown make the team.
I have all of our rookies making the roster besides Barber and Brink. It wouldn't surprise me if Barber beat out Ferguson no sheer special teams effort though. But I think he'll start on the practice squad.
In my opinion, the offensive line is going to be the most interesting part. Will Brown show enough in training camp to beat out Salaam? Does Chester Pitts still have job security after last season's poor effort? Who will start at RG as Weary recovers from his broken leg? The battle for strong-side LB is going to be interesting as well.
I am kinda throwed right now after celebrating the Rockets game 5 win so I aint got it in me to post this much info. Thanks to you Nash for your nack for posting some great threads. I will say that as I read down the list I got really excited when I saw this.....
If our line can give us a respectable running game I think with Steve Slaton as a 3rd down back we will have sick speed and hands on the field, spreading the D to cover the whole field, 50 yards deep and 3 yard dump passes along with the middle of the field. I am so excited to see what young Kyle Shanahan has in his bag in his first year on the mic. I am sure him and Gary gone do some special things with our "O". Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!4 more months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really like everything you got up there. We just have to stay healthy this season, especially Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub. And I con only hope that Andre Davis will pick up right where he left off. I think the most interesting competition is going to be the whole secondary fighting for their starting positions.
PS: Damn I hate the formating on this message board. What a mess. Sorry for the extra spaces between some players. I have no idea how they got there or how to get rid of them.
He's quicker. Remember, Gibbs is going to be looking for a certain type of player. And Pitts, originally drafted to play LT, just doesn't have the quickness to get it done. And after an underwhelming effort last year, he's going to be fighting for his job.
I'm not sure if Studdard is at the point yet to take over, but I think it's inevitable. Kubiak did say last year that he thought he'd be a long-time start eventually. It's just a question of how quickly he can adjust.
Oh, good call rg. I was thinking about penciling in Abbate at FB on mine, but I wasn't sure if we were still going to give that a try.
And I agree with whoever had Diles at SLB. I think the idea of getting this beastly new LB went to my head, and to be honest, the X-factor isn't really an ideal SLB. He'll probably back up Greenwood and DeMeco.
Also, I like the odds of the Brandon tandem getting a lot of playing time at the safety positions by the end of the year. Whether it's by injury or moving up the depth chart though, I'm not sure.
I tend to agree with NASHMEISTER'S original guess, with a few changes. I will only list the changes, as I see it.
RB 1. A. Green; 2. Chris Brown; 3. Slaton; 4. Taylor.
LG 1. Pitts; 2. Briesell.
RG 1. Weary, Studdard.
C 1. Myers; 2. Studdard or Okobi.
TE 1. Daniels; 2. Dreesen; 3. Breuhner.
SS 1. C. C. Brown; 2. G. Earl
SLB 1. Diles; 2. Adibi, but Adibi could be the starter by midseason.
DT Jeff Zgonina will make the roster before DelJaun Robinson.
Otherwise I tend to agree. There are always surprise cut's, guys who hold out, guys who underperform, some who come out of nowhere, or get hurt, so it is anybody's guess at this point.
